I like to think I'm prepared for anything. I like to think nothing phases me. I like to think, "I can take it."

Occasionally I'm proved wrong.

Good story. I have a son, or did, that is your sister. You describe the call and the dream well.

My brother, several cousins.
Hell, my dad! Last call was from Police Chaplin. Father had died and they were looking for relatives. Buried him at his family's plot in Clayton NM.
I feel ya!

I've gotten that call numerous times...  Yer right, it's never good, sometimes worse than others...

After the call, when sleep is all but impossible, I wonder...  Why am I the one to get the call, and how did it turn out that I was not the one dialing?

I hope you find some peace.

At 3:30a.m., a call from my daughter, her husband was in a car accident. Result...killed him and one of their daughters...my granddaughter. She would have been 28 next month, you never forget.

Daniel, thanks for sharing. What is her name if you don't mind sharing. First name is good enough. I'd like to pray for her. I was her once. Mayber not as "lost" but enough that it wasn't me. A prayer and a step is all it took to change me. So, I'd like to call upon our maker in her behalf.

As always very well written, you always have a way of making me think "I should have wrote that"

I am very familiar with the night ride to nowhere.

hope all is well.

Yet, sometimes there's a little more before "nothing left" has to set in. Sad
