Hi guys, I have to change the tire's on my bike. I was working on the bike that I bought in the fall and for the hell of it check the date on the tire's . Wow, front is dated 2004 and rear is 2005 that is old. I think they should be changed. It's too bad because, the tire's look in good shape lots of tread. I think the guy got the tire's drove a bit and stored the bike. Anyways, I need new tire's I was looking at the Shinko tire's, are they any good or should I stay with Avon. Thanks

I know Avon's are good, I had them on my other Valk but for the price difference of $130.00 for the Shinko that's a lot. I'm trying to find a good tire for a better price. I don't want to risk my bike on tire's that are not safe. I did have a car tire on the other Valk, nice on the highway but hard to drive on the country roads, I didn't like it.

Been running Avons for over 100K and love them. Use stock sizes as that's the size that works with the suspension dimensions.

Don't know about Shinko but I've heard good and bad.

Avon and Metzler are both on sale now. I've run both and both are great tires, but I prefer the Avons

Just my $0.02 worth

Balance beads in front-Shinko and rear-A T T-and zero/none/nada/no not one issue. I waited on the Shinko's til the really bad reviews started to turn around. Initially they DID have a LOT of issues with them. I'm on my third or fourth front Shinko and can se NO reason why there won't be a fourth or a fifth as needed. RIDE SAFE.

I used Shinko's on my KLR 650 to go on and off road.

I used Shinko's on my ST1300 for over 80,000 miles. Top speed 155mph.

I have a Shinko rear on my 98 Tourer for the past 3,500 miles. With a Cobra front. Lots of chrome has been deposited on the curves of the Appalachians. This tire combo is one I will keep using. They work well together.

Shinko SE890 Journey. I paid $123 to an Amazon seller.

The only problem I have had with a Shinko is one shared with all other makes. They wear out  Cheesy

Duffy uses Shinko's on his bike.

It would drive me bat crazy going down the road knowing I'd spent money on tires that could have been used on motels, gas, oil, brake pads etc etc.

Yer pays yer money and yer makes a choice.

So you wouldn't buy an Avon or Metzler if they were cheap on sale???

It's not that I'm to cheap to pay for Avon tires , I like Avon's there a great tire.  I just hate to pay more for something that I can get at a better price for the same quality. If the Shinko is a good tire, why pay more. I hate to buy Shinko and find out they are crap, that's why I more or less rely on opinions from riders who tried them.

I had a Journey 890 on front. Good traction, decent wear. But it developed a vibration at about 5 k that wouldn't go away. Thought it was a balance issue and rebalanced. No go. Went to beads. No go. Thought maybe it was a ujoint and put a new one on. No go. Finally put an old metzler I had around on. Problem solved. The tire showed no visible issues but it must have been coming delaminated. I know others have had no problems but there are more than a few who have. It's just not worth taking a chance again for me. I have since went to a Michelin pilot activ rear for the front and am liking it well.

Which car tire? I used the Auston Taxi Tire, love it. Rounded edges. Also bought a Excede front tire. Nothing bad to say about it, was recommended by others on this one. Price was good in Canada. ATT I got shipped to a mail house south of the border and picked it up myself. Should be a sale at Easter, no shipping charge. Tire is $152 USD, so that would be something like $3000 for us.  Undecided

I'm all for changing out the old tires, but if they look in good condition, and if you can use them up in a year, I would keep riding.

Actually, they are in Montreal.  Did you just buy your Cobras?  If so, where? Because of the recently dropping dollar prices have gone up recently.  I paid $219.30 for the front tire from their web site back in May.

I think I've read bad reports on line on every tire out there, and had personally experienced issues with Metzlers, Avon Venom and Dunlop E3.  Of course, I've had good experiences as well, and ya hardly hear about the atta boys, but the aw craps are more known to speak up.

That being said, I had two different sets/models of Shinko tires, that were on the shelf as on hand spares, recalled before I used them.  The last set was replaced with Metzlers....and the ones I had issues with.  I liked the tread and feel of the older Shinkos even tho I had not rode on them, that I felt I could try the newer SE980.  I had those on my Green IS and they performed well, showed little wear. And we're in great condition when it sold.  I now have a new Shinko on the front and an Austone on the rear....and we will see how well it performs.   No problems previously...and the price point is very good in my opinion.

Well, lets see.
$152 tire
$19 shipping (can't get it to work)
$3 mail house fee
$174 total USD = $245 CAD

I'm 1/2 hr from the border. Have NEXUS. Buy my gas while I'm there for like 1/2 of what I pay here (Premium fuel, BMW)

https://www.canadasmotorcycle.ca/dunlop-elite-3-rear-tire.html
E3, don't know if it is the right one, $241 CAD + shipping.

You tell me which one costs more? The CT should last minimum of 30K miles, figure 3 MC tires equivalent.
