My son installed some led lights on his truck and i told him he needs to fuse them, how do i figure the right size fuse to go with in simple terms please.
The two lights are 18 watts apiece.

36 watts total divided by 12 volts = 3 amps. I would go with a 4 amp fuse. (At least that's how I figure it)

:cooldude:If 4A is not available (non-standard size), go no higher than 5A.

Watts ÷ Volts = Amps
Amps x 1.2 = calculated fuse size
If there is no fuse exactly at the calculated size, use the next higher fuse size.
ATC (medium) and ATM (small) fuses come in the following ratings:
3A
5A
7.5A
10A
15A
20A
25A
30A
35A (ATC only)
40A (ATC only)
per meathead's calculations:
36W ÷ 12V = 3A
fuse size:
3A x 1.2 = 3.6A
There is no 3.6A fuse available, so use next higher 5A rating.
AGC 1/4" x 1-1/4" cylindrical glass fuses come in more ratings, e.g. you can get 4A fuses from electrical suppliers.
