I've read/heard that tourer passenger backrests will not work with the interstate fender rails. Is this accurate? If so, is a fender rail swap all that is required? I have an IS and I'm planning on removing the trunk. I'm unclear on the differences, any info would be appreciated.

I suspect the difference in them is that the Std/tourer fender rails have a cut out in them for the mounting bracket on the backrest and the IS doesn't since the backrest is made into the trunk.
Why don't you just super Valk it and put the trunk on when riding two up? You can take the trunk off and put it back in a matter of minutes.

Yes you can swap the fender rails and mount the luggage rack and/or backrest.
Simple bolt on swap.

For the brake light you will need make wiring changes, also simple. Obtaining the  standards stop light wiring pig tails makes it easier and cleaner. There will still be one wire to connect and that is easily done under the right side cover.

I've decided not to go that route for now as this will be a mostly solo bike. The sissy bar will be mainly for looks, and for the occasional 2 up scoot. May change my mind later on down the road. Gracias for the info.

Sounds easy enough Thanks Pete.
