Yes, I remember that....now that you mention it. And, I even tried it once on a damaged and hydrolocked bike I bought/repaired a few years ago. First, if you don't have an overhead lift or sling available, I found it's a bigger PITA than just pulling the carbs, tank, airbox, etc. Turned out to be a bigger job so I ended up yanking all that stuff out and then pulling the engine. I had fought with it for nearly 2 hrs. and quit, pulled the tank, airbox and carbs in 15 min. and had the engine out in about 30.
That was my experience, yours may be different. On the Valk and on more than one old GoldWing, I found pulling the extra stuff and then dropping the engine has always turned out to be the quickest and the least problematic. Keep us posted on your work.
