If the wheels are pretty bad and not the clear coated ones try barkeeper friend. It worked wonders for me. I got it at Kroger. After clean wax them to keep them clean between washings.

I use a Mother's Powerball with Mother's aluminum polish and an electric drill.
You have to buff the polish off by hand but it puts on a good shine.

White Diamond metal polish, Mother's Mini Power Ball and a dry rag/towel to wipe it down.

It's been a while since this was last posted. If you're short on elbow grease, this is for you. I used this method on some medium rough wheels, the results are terrific.

There's a "Post your favorite polish!" thread here somewhere....but to reiterate:
I use a 50/50 blend of Collinite Insulator Wax and Mother's Carnauba Wax. Rub the stuff onto the wheels like you would when using Mother's Mag Polish....let dry to a haze then buff off.
One treatment lasts all year.

If your rims are merely dull use Eagle One Nano polish. Use enough each time to lightly cover 6 inches or so of the rim and rub untill it "liquifies" and turns clear. By then the rim is clean and the polish is melting into the micro pores in the rim. I do that only twice in one season. The rest ot the time I just wash the bike and chamois it. Almost looks like chrome.
