Really bad knock near u joint or trans.

I've noticed this knock a few weeks ago and haven't been on the 1500 after that ride as I decided to do some work on her, and check it out during this lift time. I replaced a leaky main seal in the dif and went with powder coated black IS fender struts as well as a host of other fun things. At first it was like a heat shield expand/contract noise when riding at slow parking lot speeds. After much time on the lift and now the dif and shaft back in place and the rear wheel on I am now convinced the u joint is fine but this sounds really bad. Tear apart bad. It sounds internal like rocks in the tumbler. Well no, it was something stupid, I'm glad it was stupid, are you ready? You won't believe me. I should have taken a video - stupid me. It was the Kuryakyn chrome transmission cover. It must have been under some strange tweek. With the bike running in gear the rear tire spinning, the second I loosened the nuts that holds the chrome plate on the noise was gone!! Remember I first said the sound was an expand contract type sound. Well this was interesting. Bling that blanks

I too, just crossed the country, and have a banging noise, which is pronounced when accelerating, say after shifting into 2nd gear, (one knock), and then when decelerating and you let off the throttle a similar knock coming from the u joint area of the driveshaft. It has gotten louder, now, after crossi g the country on this last trip. 3K. Now, from what I've been reading, seems that everyone is getting quite a few miles on a u joint. I only have 45K on mine. It is reasonable to think that I need to replace the U joint. Be nice, if it was just tne cover making that noise

You might check the cushions in the wheel. When they wear, they can cause that kind of noise on Accel/decal.
