Can't recommend much, but does it have a new filter on it also?
Careful handling the tank, especially if there is fuel in there.
Biggest worry would be the pinching of the vent hose under the tank.

There's the gas hose that goes to the petcock.
The vacuum hose that goes to the petcock.
And the vent hose that goes out the back.
And also the petcock on/off mechanism, you can get it back on there so that everything works smooth and you can hear the clicks at the three detents... don't settle for it being on there cockeyed.
And there's a gas filter that fits over the petcock tube that goes up into the tank...

Hey guys, maybe its just me but this petcock thing does not seem to be working. First question, is the size different on the interstate and tourer tank for the petcock. Have bran new petcocock that has the plastic on the nozzel but that will not fit in the opening. Do you take the plastic off the new petcocok or is the tube smaller for the interstate. Not making sence. The plastic tip on the end of the petcock tube is just a hair to big.. Help please .

Are you sure the old filter is not stuck in your tank ? They tend to do that. Standards and I/S are the same. Is it an OEM petcock or a Chinese knockoff ?

Thanks meathead, yes old filter was in there got new one on . Its honda oem so hope all goes well. Another question. My old petcock had a rubber cap over the vacume line. Not sure if I should put this on the new one or just hook up the vacume line as in manual. Any ideas. Also still popping circuit breaker when i apply brakes. Any ideas. Thanks a bunch. See you at inzane.

I use some gas resistant Teflon tape on the petcock threads to insure no leakage around the threads. FWIW

If I'm understanding it right. It sounds like someone converted your old petcock to a manual. If it was me I would stay with the vacuum line. It gives you one more protection against a hydrolock. I'm sure you are wanting to get it back on the road but now might be a good time to put a DanMarc on.

I think there's a O-ring that seals the petcock to the tank and if there's any leaking past the threads something's horribly wrong... -Mike

The new petcock will require a vacuum line run to the port on one of the intake runners, otherwise fuel will not flow. It is a safety thing, so f;ow only occurs when the motor is running. As was mentioned, the old petcock had been modified to do away with this safety device and plugged the port with a cap.

As far as finding your short... A old trick for finding shorts in the house back when they still had fuses was to screw in a high wattage light bulb into the fuse socket. If it was a dead short then the light would light. You could then go around and unplug things until it went out. The light bulb acted like a fuse.
This is also a good way to find shorts in vehicles. Solder a old backup light to the blown fuse. When you hit the brakes the light will act like a fuse but will light light instead of blow. You can then start to unplug parts of the wiring harness until you find the short. Or just wiggle the harness until you see the light start to flicker.
Thanks, David in Fletcher NC.

Thanks Dave, sorry for late responce . Petcock working great but still have short in the system. Have it traced back to the rear of bike. Think it might be the wiring harness that connects at the rear part of the rear fender. Just changed ny rear tire so that was taken apart. Inspected it and all the wires, including The brake and blinker wires but see nothing obvious. Can the harness itself go bad. Anyone have this go on them. Also could led brake light be causing a problem. Breaker pops when I touch any brake. Also popped when i jiggled the wires going back to the gray wire harness. Any Ideas. Thanks.

Your just need to take a methodological approach to the problem. Get a handfull of fuses and unplug the rear harness and see if the problem goes away, plug the harness back in and see if you have the problem. Start disassembling everything connected to the (I believe it is a green with yellow stripe wire in the rear harness) wire until you find the problem. If it is in the part of the harness located in the rear fender, you will find it without too much problem, the rear fender can be worked on on a bench or table which makes it easy to find problems there.

Thanks Pancho, Problem fixed. It was the green and yellow wire. No more short. Now just putting everything back together. Thanks everyone for your help. Took little test run today and bike is running great. New fork seals, new tires, new rims, Chrome, new rotors, new brake pads, new led headlight, new interstate tank. Learned alot in these couple of months and ready to ride. See yall at inzane. Will post some pics soon. Great club. Proud to belong to it.

"Are you going to inzane this year?" At this point, I don't see how it could work out, but much stranger things have happened and I may be a late show up for a couple of days. I take it you are going to be making the pilgrimage?
