Since swamping batteries with Andym this past weekend, I started to think about my 10 year old battery and how much life is left in it...reading other post I know I am WAY into the bonus round with mine (original). So while I was at Wally World this evening I start looking at batteries there ($70+$9 core) was wondering what everyone esle replaced their oem battery with...

So I am asking and I am almost possitive this will go the way of tires and oil (my other two favorite subjects).

Andym what did you replace your with???

Got mine at NAPA a couple of years ago, for around $60.00... might have been given the "good" price,
not sure...

It's NAPA branded, came dry, filled with non-messy six-pack of acid tubes where you snip the top and
plug it into the top of the battery till it drains. Let the alternator charge it, works good so far...

Here is another one of those topics as controversial as tires, synthetic oil, religion and politics...there will be lots of strong opinions!  After trying several batteries (including the one from Wal-Mart), the only one that I have been completely satisfied with is the Yuasa from the Honda Dealer.

Hey BigRig,
1 yr with the walmart everstart max. no problems. As far as I could find out they are made by the same company that makes the walmart top rated, by consumer reports, auto batteries.
my org battery lasted 8 yrs. if the sitting overnight voltage is less than 12.7v its ready to fail.  this is when mine failed, but I had the new one fully charged ready to go.
the org battery and the walmart are of the absorbed glass mat (AGM) design which allows them to last 8-10yrs if kept properly charged, not like the lead acid design which is good for 4-5 yrs.
good reading

I've found that battery warranties are never what the name implies.  With the lifetime warranty, what will they do if when 8 years down the line, you walk in with a dead battery?  Will they replace it free?  Will they pro-rate it somehow?  Additionally, what about the second generation?  Is this like Autozone's brake pads, where no matter how many times you swap them, they're always free?

Yeah, I know.  Lots of questions.  Sorry, but they're what popped into my head.

Talked to the two dealers that are closest to me, I asked for part number and cost for 99 Valk IS replacement Batteries...one was $75.00 out the door the other was $101.75 + tax...same part number...hmmmm...

Thanks for the info Cos...how long until will it take out of the box to be fully operational? I think I am planning on leaving it in the box until I need it...

They replace it free,if it needs charged they charge it,if it is bad they replace it. As far second owner they said its covered but I don't really care about that part.

Dave,
walmarts come with acid that u have to install and then charge the battery. check autozone and advance auto they sell batteries also, I think one of them will actually charge it for u. U can borrow my shumacher charger if u want, an overnight charge is the way to do it, but it has to sit a few hrs after the acid is installed first.

Replaced with OEM a few years ago (purchased online)(added the juice and trickled charged overnight).  The original served me well so I didn't have a reason to look for a different brand of battery.  Took the old battery (which was still good) up to the local parts house in our one-horse town to see if they had a repository for old batteries.  Turns out a rider of the 1% persuasion was in there, stuck in town, in search of a battery (that the parts house didn't have).  I offered  up my old one.  I facetiously told him it was out of a Honda.  At the time he said, with a smug look, he didn't care where it came from as long as it worked.  I drove around the block then looked where he was parked.  He was plugging the old Valk battery into his steed.  He left town with a roar of glory.   Roll Eyes

Actually, what I meant was second generation battery, not owner.  In other words:  I buy battery number one today.  Five years down the road, Batt1 dies.  I go pick up Batt2.  Five years after that, Batt2 dies.  Do they replace that?  (Lather, rinse, repeat).
