The lid over my gas cap that is supposed to
pop up with the
key down in the left radiator cover has been less than poppy lately.
The last time I got gas, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get it open
even.
EDIT: looking at the mechanism, it is probably the case that if the key
is turned, and if you can somehow pry up the non-popping lid, it would
probably be safe... before I really knew what it looked like inside there,
when I was sitting at the gas station almost out of gas, I was contemplating
what would happen if I held the key and pried the lid up... break the lid?
walk home? ... anywho, it probably won't break anything to hold the
key and pry the lid if your lid mechanism ever becomes gummed up
like this...So I looked behind the radiator cover, everything seemed OK there.
Then I took off the lid and the bezel and stuff so I could look at that
end of the cable. The mechanism was glommed up with the white
grease Honda put on it, plus some dirt I've added over the
last couple of years...

I cleaned it up real good, and put (not glommed) a light coating of that
good belray blue grease on the mechanism... it is real poppy now
