One of the things I've always been impressed with is the OEM tool kit provided by Honda with my Tourers.

I've felt you could do just about anything you needed with it.

I was looking at the tool kit shown in the Interstate fisch, and the one they show is seriously lacking compared to the Tourers. Shocked

What's up with that?  Is this the tool kit you Interstate owners have?

Forehead smack.

Yes I think that abbreviated one is correct for my interstates.  This is news to me.

Wonder why.... the interstate breaks down less?

They were worried about the extra interstate weight?

Interstate owners are too dumb to use tools anyway?

(I added a bunch of tools to my kit anyway)

Curious.

I think they have it backwards.  My Tourer kit is like the smaller one.
If you look up 2000 Tourer and Interstate toolkits, they are identical (the smaller one from 1999).

My 99 IS came with the smaller one. It's OK, but certainly not as impressive as the tool kit that came with my old '84 Wing.

Having not even seen my Interstate yet, I have no experience with her.

Didn't Honda put the CB or Radio in the battery area?  Maybe they needed the room, so less tools.

Yes, the radio is under the seat, but there remains plenty of room for a (little stock) tool kit.  But yanking the seat (while easy) is not as convenient a way to get to your tools as in a bag.  And when I put the key in the seat latch, I forget where it is and panic.

The CB was an extra, and was made to mount under the trunk.

I believe the IS toolkit came in the left bag.

I got a smallish (woman's clutch purse style) vinyl zipper case, dropped the OE tool kit in it, and added a bunch more tools and stuff.  That, the rain gear, tire repair kit and pump, extra waterproof gloves, warm microfleese stay in my right bag.  I hope to not need any of that, so I keep it in the right bag, so if I am on the side of the road, I don't have to get on the side of the bike toward traffic flow for my daily carry items kept in the left bag.

The tool kit on my I/S was removed to make room for electricals, so I'm not sure what it came with. My '01 Standard came with the smaller kit.

I got the big kit Bill, and it mounts in the left bag, with the manual.
It velcros to the bag. Least that's how the PO said it came...
