Author Topic: Tallest Darkside Tire ?  (Read 1083 times)

I'm currently running a Goodyear Triple Tread 205/60/16, have 22,000 miles on it. Love the ride & will never go back to a MC tire despite all my buddies warnings of an early demise. I have one ridin buddy with an interstate says he's coming over to the Darkside but he wants to go with the tallest tire possible to cut down RPM's/ improve gas mileage. What's the tallest tire anyone has ran without problems?

Wouldn't a higher profile tire conflict with the "nut", even if the "Nut Cage Mod" has been done?  I was under the impression the "Mod" had to be done just to run a 60 series CT at all.

I know of several running 205-65-16. You will need to do the nutcage mod. and recommend shimming the fender (washer mod.) While you in there to be safe. Very easy.
I think you may have to bend some part of the tailight bracket by hand, just bend up out of the way for a little more clearance. I don't run this particular tire size, but SilverFox does. You can find him on the Florida board, he can tell you all about it.

Did a lot of searchin on the net for a 65 series tire that was soft enough and unidirectional and then at three wholesale tire warehouses to no avail. No such animal was found. 60 series doesn't cost me 2 miles on a tank of gas compared to stock mc tire size. Throttle response does cost though. Went to Montgomery yesterday playing chase with a HD. We averaged 85 mph. Sucked down an extra 15 miles worth of gas. But got there in a hurry. He had told me the night before he likes to ride hard. I kept waiting on him to really open it up. Oh well.

I am running a Michelin Hydroedge 205-65-16 on mine.  Had to use a carriage bolt for two up.  Using a washer to move fender over some might work too.
