fstsix, I really don't want to take off these valance covers again - I always have problems when putting them back because the 3 screws push always the cover away as the holes of the cover are not flat on mine. I did another testride today and did not notice my beautiful white clouds anylonger. The next time that I do screwing on my beauty I will take out the spark plugs and have a good look at them - I will post the result. In a few weeks I will do a trip of 400km - for me that is quite a lot ! - and after that ride if my reservetank with coolant water is still on the same level, then I may be pretty sure that my headgaskets are intact - let's hope they are !! In the meantime, I want to enjoy without revving up at idle Hoser, when you put your 100 hp-machine in first gear and open throttle full, then at the red zone you shift to second gear and open the throttle full, what happens then with your front wheel - does it stay on the road or does it lift. When I do this with mine then in 1st gear the front wants to lift, but just doesn't - in second the same. JUST CURIOUS TO BE ABLE TO COMPARE WHAT MY HORSEPOWER COULD BE?

Well, I just hold the throttle open and power shift, if solo it usually spins when I hit 2nd, with a passenger a nice little 2 ft wheelie usually ensues. It all depends on the surface, weather conditions, etc. Starting from a dead stop is a bitch, it gets sideways if it spins to much, I try to slip the clutch a little to keep it straight. This is not anything I do regularly, I expect maintenance costs rise parallel with WFO operation. Sides, I'm 63 years old, and ought to outgrow that $hit! At least thats what everybody tells me. hoser

Hoser, you speak about "throttle open and powershift" - this is Chinese to me, I only can rev up to 5000 rpm at idle........ Honestly, what does your bike do without powershifting - you pull the cluthclevel , put it in 1st gear - loosen clutch and move - THEN YOU OPEN THE THROTTLE TILL RED , you shift in 2nd gear and AGAIN OPEN THROTTLE FULL TILL REDLINE. What does the front wheel do then ? Lift a little or has tendence to lift - or what. I am simply curious to compare with my baby - when I start in 1st gear and then open throttle full she jumps away but front wheel stays on the ground but has desire to come off the road, but just does'nt. In second the same but less desire to lift. How about yours (and without that powershifting or playing with the clutch

I have come out of a gas station and while turning hit the gas too hard and lifted the front off the ground enough that it scared me as the wheel went the other way so the power is there. The way I do my wheelies is to hit the gas let it off quick and hit it again and the front is coming up !!!

I may do what I want, I never get the front wheel coming up - I have a '97 standard - all stock except 6° TW - IS springs and cut the piggies.
Does that mean that I don't have much power, should 100 hp +/- lift the front when hitting throttle in 1st gear, if so then it means that mine does not have that much power as it should?

It is much more difficult to get a Standard or Tourer to come up. An Interstate does it because it wants to.

In second the same but less desire to lift. How about yours (and without that powershifting or playing with the clutch Same thing only slower, a power shift is wide open throttle through out the gears, and shifting up without closing the throttle, ya don't want to miss a gear or it will be up against the rev limiter in a heart beat. Only time mine comes up is two up, as I said it usually chirps rubber when I hit second, you want to be going straight, so it won't slide the rear wheel sideways and dump you. It will start to wheelie occasionly solo, but it's no problem unless you are not going straight, again some surfaces have more traction than others, like concrete having more traction tha black top. One can really get in trouble on brick streets, which have less traction than either. I must stress that I don"t abuse my bike very often. Now, when I owned a Kawasaki Z1B when I was younger, it was an every day occurance. What a burn out king that was! I really am too old to do this $hit, and I like my Valk too much to abuse it much. My 97 standard made me crazy when I got her because the front tire seemed to be glued to the road. I finally dropped the rear tire pressure (stock Dunlop) to 20lbs and put the Duc Man on the back to get a wheelie out of her. Going to the CT helped but without a passenger or luggage the front end still only lifts about 50% of the time. The rest of the time I just get wheel spin. With a loaded bag on the luggage rack she can surprise you with easy wheelies. She’s a far cry from the old V65’s which would reach for the sky at 70 mph while passing a car but the Valk is an overall better bike in my opinion.

Valkyries can't do wheelies.... Yeah right Chet............. My 97 Tourer will lift the front wheel & a lad named Hollywood who rides a I/S, lifts his either one up or 2 up with ease............... I'm assuming you are joking..........

I can still get mine up with realative ease, but I'm used to it. Easier with two up.
