Okay, silly question since I don't have access to my bike while I'm in class. Are our gas tanks magnetic? I'm looking into some small bag and would like to use a quick mag install system.

Anyone near their bike get a magnet and test it out for me!

They are magnetic. However you have to account for the trim that makes up the he gas tank. Some bags won't be stable due to the trim.

Yes and they rust also at the mounting points, you may also not want to get a tank bag since even with leather covering the magnets that hold the bag on may leave scratches.

I have a small magnetic tank bag.  I only use it on weekend/weeklong road trips.  It has not left scratches yet, but I am sure it will sometime.  It's ok, it will match the scratches on the side where my knees hit the tank.  2funny 2funny

I have a magnetic and strap, they both scratch.

I have owned quite a few bike in 50yrs. worth of riding, I swear my black Valk has the softest easily scratched paint ever.  Sad

When you turn the bars to full lock, not much room, you are limited to smaller bags.

It's a Nelson-Rigg, not sure what model.

2funny Me too. I bought a smaller magnetic tank bag and use it occasionally. works great and comes with a strap that goes around the steering neck if needed. I have the tall Honda windshield and it protects it from moving. When you remove it just pull straight up and don't slide and make sure its clean. Mine even came with a rain shield and backpack straps
