by my wife yelling there's been a wreck in front of our house. I leaped up went to the front door and sure nuff, a gray Audi was in my pasture across the street. We are on a corner lot. The driver failed to stop at the dead end, hit the bank of the ditch, sent the car sailing through the fence and landed in the pasture. As I got to the door, the driver was leaving on foot. I yelled at him to stay, he didn't need to leave, went to put on some shoes, grab my gun and a flashlight. In the 30 seconds it took to do this and get back out the door he was gone. My son, Chris, was awakened as well, came out the back door and got in his truck and drove out to the scene. As I was on the way out I called 911 and stated what was going on and that I was a firefighter and gave my call # and that the driver had fled the scene.
Not knowing if he were under the influence or having stolen the car, etc. I approached it with caution. No one else was around. The cops arrived and we spent at least 30 minutes looking for the subject. The cop also called the owner to see who might have been driving. It is registered to a farm that employees several people. He couldn't ascertain who was driving. The wrecker arrived and hauled the vehicle.
The next morning I got a call from the cop stating a state trooper wanted to talk to me about the driver.
That seemed odd cause we have had numerous incidents were the driver fled on foot, usually to avoid a dwi ticket. This was different but I didn't know why.

It happened that the 19 year old driver had possibly hidden out until the coast was clear, then proceede to walk towards his home. He had gotten about 5 miles from my house and it was several hours later that he was struck by two vehicles and after they had stopped a tractor trailor hit him yet didn't stop.

Damn. That kind of stuff can mess with you if you let it. Maybe I've grown calous over the years with the number of fatalities I've encountered, people actually dying in my arms, doa, etc.

I hate it for his family and friends, loved ones, etc. My condolences. He was the same age as my son Chris.

RIP Corey Harrison.
