For an unknown reason....the kick stand bolt broke when putting it back up. Left the spring and sheared bolt on ground under bike. Zip tied it up...limped home. Thanks to Mike Frye he had an extra of both. Many, many thanks to Mike for just giving me his extra set. Parts are on order to replace and to now keep and extra set for me too. Most embarrassing moment was when a fellow (Harley) rider offered to sit on bike so I could tie it up. Bet he is still talking about that !!

Not an "unknown" reason...those bolts normally break after years of wear......I think the diameter transition/tightly machined corners make it prone to shear off.........coulda been designed better.

And if you notice the holder for that kickstand bolt has a hole big enough to allow the bolt to move side to side....keep bending a piece of metal over and over and guess what that causes?  When mine broke I made one with a shaft thick enough to fit tight in the holder......I am always looking for it to break again but after so many years, maybe it won't

Dang kick stand bolt!

The steep driveway at the cottage I'm staying at has a burm at the top that took out my stand bolt.

Luckily, I found the spring in the road.

My 14 yr old great nephew helped my search his fathers huge pile of assorted bolts and he found a suitable replacement.  Perfect!

Well, he does have better sight.

I rewarded him with a 50 mile ride up rt 421 to Shady Valley TN, then over to Damascus VA, and back to Zionville,NC.

Excellent riding here!

When I got off my Springer and sat on a Valkyrie for a test ride,
I wondered why I thought I might want one of these boats... the
gas tank seemed bigger than most states...

Luckily, I found the spring in the road.

I've been thinking on this, since I'm playing with the kick stand switch, and was thinking of using SS wire, and run a length throw the spring, and loop it on the bike somewhere (haven't even looked yet), so if the bolt breaks, I won't loose the spring.

Thanks to all that replied and remember when ordering that replacement bolt.....it's on the the FRAME diagram. Don't ask how I know. Many, many thanks to Mike Frye......went to look at his  side stand to get a better idea of how it is suppose to look.....and he handed me the parts to fix it. Turns out he carries a spare spring and bolt. Parts are OTW Mike.....thanks again !!

The spring for the kick stand disappeared today, on a ride! When I look under the bike on the right side it looks like something is missing. The safety switch is still there. Should the 14mm bolt on TOP of the kickstand, have another nut or bolt on the bottom of the stand? Thank you in advance!

maui boy, t'was just a screenshot of an ebay pic. I'm not affiliated with the true owner. Anyways, gangman might have been inquiring about Nut 7, which functions like the nut on the bottom of the clutch pivot bolt, a double capture so on. Oh, and when I took the spring off my sidestand, there was a lot of play on the sidestand. That was a question somebody asked a few months ago, and I stated, nah, there's very little play. Had to remove the spring to work on the clutch slave and found that without the spring tension, the kickstand does flop around more than you'd think.
