I just bought the stereo for my bike.
Sony DSX‑M50BT (4x 55watt)
Rockford Fosgate PBR300x4  amp (300 watt, 4 channel)
1 pair, PowerBass XL-522 marine speakers
1 pair, Polk Audio MM521 marine speakers
Battery: YUASA YTX14-BS
Alternator is from a Goldwing.

Is this setup likely to drain my battery while riding?
Will I need a 2nd battery, maybe stowed in my saddle bag?
Thanks,
L

I'm no expert by any means. But I seriously doubt you'll need an extra battery. I have had my wife's heated vest, pod lights, radio, CB, phone charger all going at the same time with no problems. Now if you were to run your radio with the bike turned off that's a different story.

You won't need a second battery to keep things up while the motor is running Lyonardo, the alternator will cover it all, however, if you want to run the stereo when the bike is parked, then a second battery may be called for. I installed a second battery in the right bag for this purpose. If you do a search you can find the post with a diagram of how it is wired so the auxiliary battery stays charged while running, but can run the sound system when parked with no draining of the main battery with the flick of a switch.

Here, I found the post, this is what I did,,

The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

OK, great.
I was thinking that since it handles my full heated suit all winter, the stereo shouldn't be a problem. Thanks for confirming that.

Pancho, if I find out I need to play the stereo when the bike is off I'll be using your system as a guide. Thanks.

Get a hold of rocketman on the Texas board. he has had a lot of expereince with a 200 watt  amp and an Interstate radio and alternator.
