I've noticed a ticking sound coming from the right side of the motor, also what looks like dried up oil on the top of the motor, any thoughts or suggestions

That's not oil your intake O-rings are leaking and need to be replaced cooldude

The ticking could be a couple things. Valves might need adjusting, loose exhaust manifold nuts. For sure you need intake o-rings.  cooldude

+1 on loose exhaust nuts. Happened to me--one was actually missing. And a lot easier to check than valve adjustment.

Yes it is, but the valve adjustment is pretty easy too. I had a couple valves ticking on my Standard. It was easy especially if you've ever done the shims on a Yamaha. The ticking on my Interstate was the exhaust nuts loose. If that's it be careful and just snug them up. The exhaust studs are known to break pretty easily.

Go to an O ring supplier in your area. You need a #123 O ring in Viton material. It'll last forever.

Dried fuel and maybe a little dirt thrown in for good measure.

Never seen such strong evidence of o-ring failure before.  Only gas/air mixture goes through those intakes (says Captain Obvious)  so no oil ever gets up in that area.  This is an easy fix - pull the intake tubes and replace the o-rings on the bottom.

Yep, intake o-rings. Also on the ticking...check the vacuum lines. They tend to split right where they attach to the intakes...just feel 'em...they'll be really soft or split withing a couple inches of the runner. Ticks just like a bad valve. (and tends to do it more when it's hot as they are softer)

do yourself a favor..don't replace o-ring, go to napa or auto part store and buy gasket material and make some intake gaskets instead..never have to worry about a split o-ring again ever!! and vacuum leak...everytime a valk or interstate comes to me its got vacuum leaks all over...high temp silicone hose and intake gaskets fixes them perfect!
Use stephoscope track down tick, could be pair valves since I see you didn't desmog, or exhaust leak or a valve adjustment...search those areas, exhaust leak and valve noises are almost silent on cold engine.

Timely post!
When I changed my oil yesterday, I noticed that the right cylinder bank had a noticeable ticking sound that the left bank did not.
I read this and checked my nuts. Shocked
All were loose on the right (one missing!), all were snug on the left.
Replaced the missing nut w/ a spare 6x1.00 that I had laying around (not acorn though).
Ticking fixed though, thanks to the forum.
(anybody have an extra one of those nuts they want to sell me?)
