This might be a dumb question but what is a Super Valk?  Is it just another name for a solo Interstate?

More or less....you're right. It involves removing the trunk and it's associated mounting brackets, leaving a bare rear fender. Then adding a tail light in place of the cover that comes on the I/S. Some riders keep the I/S fender rails and modify the trunk mount per Big BF's instructions, allowing you to remove/install the trunk at will in a matter of a couple minutes. Others just leave the rear of their I/S bare of the trunk and replace the fender rails with Tourer/Std. rails....or Cobra aftermarket items if you can find them. It makes for a neat looking bike. My Tourer, I added the radiator pods and an HD fairing, and recently I'm in the process of adding the trunk capability with the quick removal mod. The only reason for the trunk....cheaper than paying for a license plate for the trailer and increasing the bike insurance to cover it.

Although the name is applied loosely to any Interstate that has had its trunk removed, a Super Valk is technically one that has been modified so that the trunk can be easily removed or placed back on the bike.

It does require, as mentioned, the addition of a taillight and the mounting brackets of the trunk are normally modified to allow the quick change.

I'm seriously considering making my I/S a Super Valk. I have a CB and I know that it will not work when a tailight is mounted to my fender.

So my quierey: is there any interest among our readers as to the purchase of the CB, mounts, wiring, and antennae?

If there is interest in this, email me at dukenjoey(NOSPAM)@yahoo.com

You didn't know that mine works. I have a tail light and a CB under the trunk.

Lady Draco makes them - and yep, they are nice and well made - mine have been on for what, 4 years or so.  You can choose the color and design of the inserts - mine are red diamonds.

Here's mine:

Since this pic was taken I've blacked out the turn signals, taillights and added LED elements with smoke lenses all the way around...removed the tank emblems, added gauges to the pods, added a CD changer and controller and a bunch of other neato stuff. I'll post an updated pic when I take a few.

A Valk with a motor that is shot is also a blown Valk.  Those are very rare, in fact I've never seen one!  2funny hoser

You can move the cb radio to under the seat....move the antenna behind one of the bags and use a splitter so you use only one antenna...that way when you remove the trunk you still have a radio....after I did the conversion here's what I noticed...improved gas mileage, at average speeds I get 40-45 miles to gallon, I also added Dyna-beads and cut down the windsheild to 8" which helped the gas mileage...the bike handles much better and is easier to get on and off...Harley riders wave to you more  :)and the bike draws more attention at gas stops.... cooldude...and the bike seems faster.  Go for it, if you don't like it just put it back together... You folks sure got some good looking machines.  Your work exhibits both creativity and originality while working with a bike like none other.  Think I will start my own photo gallery from your pics.  They are full of good ideas and will provide some nice viewing in the years to come.

Looking at your picture, I see the rear seat is gone but the sissy bar is still there. In place of the rear pillion you have the fender luggage rack, same as I have. My question is.....did you do that to make it too uncomfortable for a passenger, thereby forcing her to ride her trike?  Grin

Does anyone have a link on "what's needed and how to do it"?  I see there are plenty here that have done it, but for those of us that are considering this mod...... a link would be appreciated.   Thanks in advance....

If you're going to collect pics, include one of mine.  She wasn't a true Super Valk as I hadn't completed the work on the grab rails before her untimely demise.  She was a sweet ride.

In your experience, do the police tend to think, "Yeah, that looks like a street legal exhaust"?

I think we need to get this thread back on course. The original poster asked "What is a SuperValk?". It's pretty much common knowledge here in the VRCC club that a Honda Valkyrie Interstate with a removable trunk is a SuperValk.

This is a "SuperValk" pictured below. Now lets see a few more pictures of real SuperValks.

funny, I was scanning the forums and seeing references to "supervalk", wondered what it was and did a quick search and found this thread with the answer!

I love my Tourer but I really like the look of a SuperValk.  I have a couple of questions:

1) is there any performance increase with a SuperValk? (I guess the question should be, is there a performance increase with a I/S as compared to a standard or Tourer).

2) have many people built SuperValks from Standard or Tourers (as compared to using a I/S)?  I would imagine it would be costly...tank, pods, fairing.
