I discovered that the pilot screw on # 2 was missing last weekend. I have a new one in hand ( 16012-MZ0-A00 NEEDLE SET, JET ) Contained in the parts packet in addition to the screw is a spring, a small flat washer and O ring.

Question is what is the order of assembly for these parts. It seems to me that it should be spring, washer, O ring going upward toward needle, but I'm not sure.

Also, is it likely that the previous O ring may still be in the carb?

How this happened, I do not know.

Help would be appreciated.

Can't tell from the schematics, no information in shop manual.

Was hoping to avoid removing another one given my luck with small parts. They sometimes seem to evaporate for me.

pg 5-12 tech manual  o-ring, washer, spring, pilot screw.

future ref: washer always protects o-ring from spring end.

The standard order for many Honda carburetors is O-ring, washer (to protect the O-ring from the spring), spring, pilot screw. That is the way it is shown in the photo on page 5-12 of the service manual. It is possible the old O-ring is still in the bottom of the hole.

Sometimes the parts are lying on top of the motor around that carb.

The order of installation is correct as given, to remove an o-ring what I've done in the past involves some very fine wire. Just bend a slight hook in the end, just enough to catch the edge of the o-ring, it will come loose then. You can tell by the inside diameter of the new ring just how small to make the hook....really, really small hook. Doesn't take much.....and don't be in a hurry. 'Nuff said!   cooldude
