Have a question for you interstate owners....how accurate is you fuel guage?...Mine reads either 1 click under the full mark even when I fill up & stays that way almost till I'm about empty, then goes all the way to bottom & starts flashing low fuel. Time for a new sending unit? Thanks for your help....by the way, this bike has been the most satisfying purchase I have ever bought...yeah.

Well, having had a unit where the sender was replaced in the tank clocked 90' wrong, mine didn't work at all. I went by mileage and the reservoir setting on the petcock.
Personally, keep your eye open for a used/inexpensive one, and buy it then. They come up from time-to-time.
Just use your mileage, more accurate than trying to read that gauge. Haven't seen how far this bike will go yet, but I use to go to 189 miles to reserve, then 4 liters left (26L tank).

Mine is full up when I fill the tank. It stays there for 60-70 miles then drops slowly until 150-160 miles when its at one bar and it starts flashing, so it represents the tank accurately. If there is a way to reverse the unit 180ยบ that might be the issue. Fred.

I have owned four Interstates and ridden several others for distance. They are each different and none as evenly incremental as one would want.
It's a rather general indicator. When you hit the need for reserve that is quite specific. You will have 1.1 gallons left at that time.
My previous Interstates tended to go on reserve somewhere around 190 miles. My current Interstate now tends to hit the reserve need at between 220 and 237 miles. Get yourself a DigiSync and synchronize the carbs with it. (Oops. That was off-topic.)

On my I/S I use trip-2 as my fuel distance read out. I believe-I M H O-that my fuel quantity reading is fairly close. 150 miles tween fuel stops at least fer these old bones bout right. Maybe just cleaning the contacts? RIDE SAFE.

Your gauge sounds useless, I would look at the sender and probably replace.
Mine shows full for 50 to 60 miles depending on how I ride and then starts dropping to half tank by 100 miles. Then comes down a little faster than should but recovers so as at close to 200 miles (when I ride nice) it shows empty. I go to reserve very soon after the light starts blinking. I also use the odometer and gps to estimate fuel consumption.

As other forum members reported, my I/S 99 fuel gauge works like this: after first 30 miles, it drops a mark and keep going down gradually until around 150 miles when the reserve is blinking and later drops to empty.

I think I'm going to invest in a new sending unit...I generally have to go to reseve around 170 miles...its not that I dont estimate fuel usage, I just want to keep everything working in tip top shape..this will probably be the last bike I own, want to take good care of her.

Just so you know, the owners manual says that when the flashing start , you are at 1.53 US Gal (5.8L).
Reserve is 1.06 US Gal (4L) left.
