Author Topic: DIY headlight relocation?  (Read 1298 times)

I placed an order from the usual source for a headlight relocation bracket, but it's on a major backorder right now.
My head-gears are turning on how easy it would be to fabricate my own.
Has anybody done this as a DIY project?

I know there are many of us who've bought the same bracket that I ordered, but I'm looking for people who came up with their own hack.

I've never heard of a headlight relocation bracket, for any motorcycle. Never heard of anyone talking about one for the Valkyrie. Is this for the head light, or running rights?

How about a picture or a link to the item?

Lyonardo:
I haven't heard of anyone else making them but I do have one and just looking at it, it doesn't appear to be anything fancy and shouldn't be hard to fabricate one.

Yep, that's the one I ordered about 6 weeks ago. When I called him about it, he says the triple-tree mods are taking up all of his shop time and it would be a while before he could get more brackets made.
I'm thinking about just drilling 4 holes in a 1/4" plate and bolting it on.

Michvalk, yeah it's for moving the headlight 2 or 3 inches forward.

I just got the Wide open custom fairing, and a pleather fairing bra.
Right now the bra overlaps the headlight and looks like crap.
I can't keep taking my girl out in public with her bra strap showing!

Plus, my headlight sits about 2 inches back from the fairing edge. I want it to be flush.

Here is another source for a headlight extension.

I also have a spare xf6 3" headlight extension if you are interested.

The bracket would be easy but I would want a bend on the front to hide the mounting studs plus spacers would be needed to accomendate the longer stud length. I just made a horn relocation bracket that attaches to bottom side of triple tree/headlight mounting studs thus I visited this area in past 48 hrs. so the memory is still fresh. Smiley Shocked

h13man, you've got to give us some pics of your new mod.
There's a lot of us DIY types out here.
I could probably get away with an "ugly" mod. The fairing hides the entire headlight except for the front face.

Thanks for the tip. I'll take a look.
I think the 2" is the right fit.

I have the wide open customs fairing, vtx headlight, and 3" GO extension. You will probably have to put spacers under the HL to fill in the gap. I like this fairing cooldude

I have a Wide Open Customs fairing on my 2003 with the xf6-custom bracket. I used longer bolts and about 1.5" chrome spacers form the local ACE hardware to get the headlight bucket pushed forward and down enough so it lines up nicely in the fairing opening. I also moved the fairing as far down and slanted back as far as I could get it as I think it looks better.  I'll try and find some pics of the bracket and spacers installed.

You can see the headlight brackets and spacers in the pic taken from the right side just under the fairing. It shows the triple tree with the xF6 headlight bracket mounted on top of the triple tree, the 2 spacers (a 1" and a 1/2",totaling 1.5"). Just under the spacers is the stock headlight bucket bracket and under that is the light bar bracket. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I see what you did there.
That lets you mount the brackets a couple inches lower as well as move the headlight toward the front.
Definitely worth considering.
Thanks!
