I have had a Chinese bluetooth communicator for a couple of years and am very happy with it. Answers the phone, plays MP3, basically does what it is supposed to and does it well.
My questions is how other BT communicators handle intercom talking between different riders. Of the units on the market do they all require you to do a specific action to able to talk to an individual rider?
Do any allow you to talk to all the units that are paired to each other, ie, push a button and talk to everyone at once or do you have to cycle through all riders on at a time?

The Scala Rider G4/G9/G9X allow you to have up to four units connected so all can hear the others at the same time, like on a conference call. The G9/G9X allow you to have up to nine connected, but in that mode, you need to specify who you want to talk to before it connects the two of you for an exclusive conversation. They have a new Packtalk system for up to 15 riders, but I don't know how it works, other than the units of the middle riders will relay the signals of the riders at the ends of the groups so the range can be extended.

Thanks, i guess the conference call feature only works if every rider has the Scala Rider?
Has anyone paired different brands with each other?

The SENA SMH10 allows up to 4 units in conference mode, and will connect with other brands with the same encoding, but possibly at 'reduced range'. I just tested a set with a riding buddy, and it works really well - I couldn't hear his pipes through the headset, even though they're not stock, so noise-cancelling works well.

The Sena 20s lets you have group intercom , where everyone can talk and hear everything without pushing any buttons. I haven't tried to pair it to any other brands yet.

Several years ago I bought one of the first Cardo Scala BT headsets. It only handled phone calls (had a single speaker) but worked well enough and was pretty high tech for the time.
I replaced my helmet in 2014 and decided to try one of the SENA units. It is vastly better than my old Scala. Calls are clear and voice dialing works flawlessly. I rarely stream music since the system on my F6B is pretty good, but the few times I've tried it sounded fine. The universal intercom is a nice feature too.
I've seen some of the more basic SENA units selling for a little over $100.

Just my opinion, but save some money and buy the Sena SMH 10 . The 20 is the latest that adds some features, but also add to that complexity. My wife thought that the SMH 10 was what I had been looking at, when it had been the SMH 20. She got me the dual pack of the SMH 10 by mistake. After having used it , it does everything great. The 20 adds a feature or two, don't even remember what they were, but with those features there is added complexity of operation. My Sena SMH 10 handles my phone calls, receives Bluetooth from both my phone and a Bluetooth transmitter I have plugged into the audio system on my F6B. I have used mine regularly for bike to bike communication and it works great.
