I did a major Valkyrie project four years ago, a '99 Tourer. Got it for $1700, sold a bunch of extras off it, replaced the engine(hydrolocked) and sold the old one. Kept track of all the stuff sold and bought, and the final selling price. One column minus the other netted me a tad over $4100 profit and I did it in under two months. I had a lot of the parts needed, bought a few from fellow members, went through the bike from front to rear. Everything was either serviced, new, or rebuilt. Sold within 36 hrs. of listing it on Craigs List in Orlando. Along with the title, I gave the new owner a list of everything done to the bike. Was a young couple with a cute little daughter just a year old, all the time we were dealing on the bike, Rita was holding her on her lap doing her grandma thing.
I really won't take on another project until I finish the 1200. Right now I'm waiting on a new digital speedo/tach setup to replace the big uglies that came on the bike. Meanwhile I'm fabbing a side mount license/taillight bracket to go on the left side. I have some good SS sheet that I'll cut and mount the license plate holder and light to it. Then run the wires for it to the harness, add a matching multipin connector. Next will be the front and rear turn signals. I have to cut off the very back end of the frame so the rear fender doesn't hit. Will cut it at a sharp angle so I can weld a plate nut on the inside for the rear turns to mount on, then hope to run the wires inside the frame.
When the 1200 is done and gone, I "might" look for another shorter term project. Will depend on the input received from others.

I'd kinda like to see what I could do with something like the 1500 Wing in the ad link I posted. Get rid of the luggage...saddlebags/trunk, fairing, side plastic, then see if I can pick up a good tank to mount up front so I can get rid of the one under the seat. I'll bet I could make an interesting ride out of it. And I'll bet I'll get some resistance on the whole idea also.
