ok i have pondered this for some time. when riding some times not every time i get a odor of gas. but the only time i get it is in a right turn on sharp curves. not 90 degree cut back turns but those warning 15 mile per hour right turns. i have checked o rings in intake, i have checked and tightened carb boots. i have checked carb drain lines, fuel cap and so on. any one ever have this happen. and the funny thing is my dads gl1800 trike he notices his will do the same thing in right turns some times also. any ideals will be help full. all fuel lines are new. just put on in winter. nothing wet on engine.

Strange but I would look at the gasket on cap.

Look for signs of leak on the fuel rails.

How about the level of fuel? Full tank, or always?

Well I had the same thing happening to my 2001 interstate. I made a gasket for the gas cap out of 2 pieces of blue gasket material. I have a tank bib that hid the gas coming out of the cap and subsequently bubbled the paint around the cap. After the home made gasket (2x thick) the smell and seeping  has disappeared.
I hope this helps you out.

 are released

I blew into my vent pipe (used a new piece of hose) and could not pressurize the tank. but could smell the vapors above the cap.
Good luck

Wherever it's coming from, the airflow is probably drafting the odor straight back and away from your nose on straightaways at speed, but when you slow to make a turn, the odor floats up to your nose.

I am betting the cap seal too.

Many have smelled it in their enclosed garage or shed.  Is yours inside or outside?

Next time you pull in, do some swoopy maneuvers and throttle gooses (shake the gas in the tank good), get off and immediately sniff the cap.

Hopefully his neighbors won't be watching all of that.  2funny

I told him to sniff the gas cap, not the pillion.  That would be wrong.
