I was wondering how many have a bit of "modification withdrawal" the feeling you get when there really aren't to many mods to do and yet feel the need for something else. I have thought about engine mods, exhaust mods, performance mods and when I think of the time and money involved I go clean the bike. I really like my bike pretty much the way it is. I have even thought of a louder horn but its pretty loud and people think its a car so they pay attention. The fuel mod in either Ghul or Power Commander leaves me kind of HO HUM type of feeling.
Mods to me either for apperance, performance, handling, comfort seem to not be important outside of the mods I have already done. Anyone else in this boat? I am so not used to this since on my 1500 it was one thing after another. Maintence is not even an issue on this bike since its pretty much bullet proof.
So anyone else in this mod of modification withdrawal?

I still have mods planned but the 1500 is taking mod money and maintenance money as the two new Shuberths and Sena 20 set for the wife and I and now I need three tires! Oh and I desperately need new boots. It will have to wait, I --- broke. At least I have the saddlebags done and that is behind me now.

Robert, maybe you could check with those RaceTech people or some other suspension house and see if their Wing suspension upgrades will apply to our bikes...

I know what you mean!!!!!!! I have done all the things needed to be able to ride the way I want, and take short trips with just the bags,or longer ones by adding the trunk....other cosmetic things I added just to make the bike my own and not like any other one out on the road. When I walk out from a stop I quickly want to spot my bike over all the others out there, and if some dont like what I have done thats fine after all ITS MY bike and I will do what I want. Like the little kid in the candy store, mine,MINE,ALL MINE.................... and thats the way it is

Traxxion Dynamics says that the Ak20's and the rear shock ( Penske ) will work on our bike. That was the first thing I checked since I plan on upgrading the rear shock and forks at 20,000 when I service the suspension.

For a softer ride , that's good enough reason for me as I have/am thinking of the same thing Robert, maybe you could check with those RaceTech people or some other suspension house and see if their Wing suspension upgrades will apply to our bikes...

I doubt any kind of performance suspension will seem softer...

Let me know how this works for you maybe I can find some reason to change them I ran their suspension on my 08 Goldwing and never regretted it. I had adjustable preload caps and rebound adjustment in the forks. The wife thought it was money well spent since her ride improved as well when hitting bumps. The stock suspension is good on the Wing but this is a couple steps above easily. Kidd it will not be softer, but will absorb bumps more effectively I assure you. No more harsh crap for sure.

That's what I mean , a shock absorber that absorbs more shock , to un-gar the ride . Robert, maybe you could check with those RaceTech people or some other suspension house and see if their Wing suspension upgrades will apply to our bikes...

Nope, not me. Not ever. I'm not one to look for greener grass on the other side and, if I have money, I'd rather spend it on travel - actually using the bike - than tweaks. I'll tweak the bike until it works then ride the wheels off it, before I spend money on mods just for the sake of it. If I can stay on track, read: if the weather hold out, I'll be putting on say 15,000 miles on the bike's first year. I'm already up to 8,000, 3,500+ this season alone, regardless of the incessant rain around here last month.

Ya dinosnak I've said it before I would take a trip on the bike rather than shell out $850.00 + for a seat that is at best only marginally better than ths stock one....... I have the bike the way I want it now and can take short or longer trips with ease. I put 13, 000 miles on the bike last year, looking to better that this year, so far almost 2500, and the warmer weather seems to have finally got hear, so it's ride, RIDE, and ride some more, ride safe all the way......

Well I'll tell ya, the $400 + shipping that I spent for my Corbin Gunfighter was money well spent. The Gunfighter is tons more comfortable for long hauls than the stock - I did a casual 650 mile round-trip last weekend and (with the addition of [yet more money] Mick-O-Pegs) with bike is super comfy for me. The stock seat was painful after 4+ hours or so, the Corbin (with all my custom-request mods) didn't cause me any issue at all.

I looked at the Traction Dynamics rear shock. It sure would be nice to have a smoother ride. I am fine with the front, but the back shock is a POS. Jars me all the time, and I have the dial almost at the softest setting. Not that I can tell any difference from the softest setting from the stiffest. I am tapped out this year, but something to think about for next year.

With this bike, it's the little things that please. I've got the black mirrors and black levers on, the centerstand, backrest and rack, and the shorty windscreen. Also added heated grips and a tire pressure monitor system. Very happy with the looks and performance, since the blue comes with that extra mojo!

The $600 for the Traction Dynamics rear shock does not bother me , their site does not state whether it works in the Valk , considering the 150 pound weight difference . I guess they could make the necessary adjustment

Well I knew it wouldn't last not only did I just changed the oil but I just ordered the front engine timing cover in chrome. I was thinking about chroming the passenger hand holds. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/261885099490?item=261885099490&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466&rmvSB=true

About 95 percent sure, I will be happy to tell you when I get it. I compared the cover and the gaskets part numbers for the earlier year Goldwings and the Valk and found the gasket is the same but the cover is a slightly different number. This was another option but I wanted it to look stock except for being chrome and this one is basically a stick on cover. http://wingstuff.com/products/2376-chrome-timing-cover-for-gl1800-goldwingThese guys also have a set of chrome valve covers not just stick on covers but the actual chrome valve covers. If the timing cover turns out to be good quality then I will get them. I heard it can take a bit to get them since they are in China and do have a warehouse here but may not stock this part in the US.

I haven't had much time to look at additional mods and my eye has turned towards the old Valk I'm getting.
I believe a seat is up next for me.

Here's what you do... you keep your perfected bike in the garage... and then you buy another bike to start modding.... I spent two years perfecting my 2014 Triumph Scrambler with absolutely everything I wanted for it. It is now exactly as it should be... and that's why I bought a Valkyrie... so I can start again!

My 1998 Val had alot of chrome, thats another reason I liked the 2014.......LESS chrome, ya I know it has alot of plastic also, but as I have added RED accents here and there I like the fact that there is less chrome to polish, that gives me more time to ride and not worry about shiny chrome.........

As mentioned, there really isn't all that much to do. The ONLY mod I am interested in is the ECM flash by GUHL. The bike is fast, but you can tell that first and second gear have been somewhat neutered...3rd gear is where the bike really starts moving. With my last bike I tuned it to run richer...and was very happy with it's performance. I think the GUHL mod will allow the bike to run more near it's true potential then trying to comply with federal emission standards.
It's kind of pricey....for what it is...I think anyway, but will probably do it after the bike's warranty expires. If anyone has done this PLEASE report with your opinions about the mod.
