I realize this has been hashed over recently but I thought I would add a little something to the subject.  I didn't like the idea of finding a place to store a 2' x 8' piece of plywood with the wheel chock attached to it so I took two pieces of 2' x 4' plywood and joined them with a 2 foot length of piano hinge so it can be folded for easier storage or hung on a wall.

Why add the expense of more plywood and a piano hinge?  Half of that and no hinge is just as functional, lighter in weight and easier to lift and hang out of the way?  Is there something that requires the full length of plywood?

When I did mine, I started with just a small piece of plywood.  The problem was when I pulled into the chock the wood slid forward.  The long piece enables the rear wheel be on the end of the plywood and hold the whole thing from sliding.

I also use the H.F. wheel chock ,but wanted to use it while washing the bikes. So I called some of the metal salvage yards looking for aluminum tread plate . They had some . Now I do . $22.50  @ $1.00 a lb. Not as long as I would have liked but it has worked fine, I needed to free up a little more room in the garage, Standing them up straight on a chock seemed to allow car doors to swing open without worry.

What STEELERS said ....  if it's going to be portable you want the rear tire on-board (no pun intended) to keep it from sliding.  I used 1/2" plywood ($3.99 ea).  The pin for the piano hinge is only like 1/8" which is on the bottom and is NOT a problem.

Well, ok.  I understand the problem now.... I have that chock and it is mounted on some diamond plate steel.... and it did slide as well. I just put a 3 dollar rubber carpet mat that I got from Home Depot under it.  I guess the longer wood does come in handy for that purpose then.   cooldude

So...does Harbor Freight have these in the store, or is it something that needs to be ordered?

I like the idea of getting a 2'x4' handy panel and attaching a rubber mat to the bottom.  I will need 2 of these set ups.

You'll have to check your local store for availability, but they usually have them. Don't pay more then 27.99 or 29.99 as they are always going on sale for that and should be on sale right now.
