A WV lawmaker wants to ban the sales of Barbie in WV. He is citing Barbie as a corrupting influence on young girls. The doll creates, in his opinion, to much focus on the physical self and an unrealistic expectation of what beauty is.
This is Barbie's 50th B-Day by the way.

She might not be as 'wholesome' as she once was. Hard to say.
Iran is also banning the doll. Only one of those bans is truly suprising I suppose.
Barbie Corporation (Mattel) is still working on suing the competition out of business. They have sued Bratz as a copy cat fashion doll.
So after 50 years of kids playing with Barbie Dolls, hostile take overs, international spurn, and relentless internet mocking, why take this moment to try to decry Babrie as a negative impact on young people? Are young people more impressionable than they were 50 years ago? Is this bending to internet outcry that Barbie is a cultural oddity? Or is this whole thing just a way for a lawmaker to get headlines and attention? Hard to say...oops did I just say "hard to say" might have been a fruedian slip.
