Over the last couple of weeks, my front brakes are dragging badly first thing in the morning when cold, but work perfect when it's hot out. I got a half an idea why, but would like to get other opinions.

Weak retaining springs and dirty/rough pins, overall dirty calipers

If you haven't done a brake oil change and or a master and caliper cleaning, it might be time to do this. I notice with years the calipers gets corrosion like scale behind the seals and causes them to squeeze the seals against piston making them tight. A good cleaning makes everything work better. I can't say, that's my two cents, we don't have does anymore.  laugh

Thank you, that's about what I thought. Gotta find some time to get her done.

I have rebuilt all the calipers on both my valks and find that there is a buildup of white corrosion inside the outer dust seal rubber.  i use a pick and small wire brush on a dremel to clean them then replace the inner and outer  rubbr rings.  The corrosion buildup puts pressure on the rings that makes the pistons drag.  Be careful not to push theh pistons back or you will have a hard time blowing them out with an air hose.

Here's a tool I made for pulling pistons, turn, twist and pull no mess.

I made two of these, one 1'' and the other 3/4'' for small pistons. You can see by the pictures one end as slots cut out to expand with the small taper piece I made. I used a 5/16 rod to pull the taper piece by turning the threaded handle I made. Very simple to make and it works.
