Two 11 hour days have me at the border of MT and ND this evening. Another 10 hours tomorrow to Fargo on the border of ND and MN where I meet up with my riding partners for the rest of the trip to WV, which will be a little more leisurely. Gas mileage sucked last half of today... the plains of Eastern MT into headwinds all day....gotta try and keep the old girl under 140 at least the weather is good. Really liking the new AirHawk seat pad... Makes a huge difference on the old seat... . now if only my shoulders were 30 years old again One of the ND guys has a private tour set up for the 4 of us at the Jim Beam distillery in Kentucky, so a bit of a detour en route to Morgantown. Apparently many more attendees compared to recent years so looking forward to seeing a whole lot more Valkyrie s than we'll see in a lifetime in BC See you in Port Angeles on the 24th....those that are going Cheers, Mike

Hey Mike,
I was out riding in the Maple Ridge/Mission area today and I thought of you.....wondered if you had left yet and if so, where you were. Good to hear you're well on your way and that you are experiencing good weather....that's half the battle in your favour. I'm so jealous and wish I could have joined you on this trip.
Please keep the updates coming so we can all live vicariously through your experiences. Ride safe my friend. Cheers, paul

I too was thinking of you, thought you had left yesterday. Glad to hear so far-so-good. Which town you staying at, in MT or ND? Hwy 90 all the way from Seattle?
Was wondering if you had gotten the AirHawk and how it is holding out for you. I'm missing a back rest on my seat, even on a short ride.
I had forgotten to get in touch with you and get you some money. I was wanting to get a last years Inzane shirt from Spearfish SD, in Large (if any left). I had gotten a Med, and it is a little too tight for everyday ware. Was also wanting a VRCC Tshirt, in Large also. Let me know if you can do this or not, and how I can pay you back.

Actually I took highway 3 through the Kootenays, dropping down into the US in Idaho then highway 2 through northern ID and into MT... Glacier Park etc. Prefer to stay off Interstates if possible... would rather spend a few extra time in the saddle if a decent alternate route is available. Probably do some Interstates coming home though in order to get back on time to prep for Valhalla. Apparently F6 Rider won't be there this year so not sure all what will be available for purchase outside of our registration preorders.... If there is I will just purchase and you can pay me at Valhalla. Paul, it was top late to add an IZ 2016 shirt to my preorder, but they should have those for sale seperately there.

Yes, Large Cruiser... It's about 14" x 15-16" It's the new AirHawk-R model. Fits perfectly in the bucket of my Corbin seat, stays put while riding without strapping it down, and every day into this ride I like it more... could never have imagined how much difference this thing actually makes. BTW Draeger... I like your flat black Valk

Can't wait to sit down with you at the Valhala rally to chat about your first two days riiding. I am leaving on July 2nd and will be covering the much of the same route. I'm planning on hitting Cashe Creek, Vernon, Needles, Nakusp, Creston, and then down into Idaho and Montana. Over to North Dakota and then south into the Black Hills. By the time we arrive in Glacier National Park the "Going to the Sun" highway will be open. I'm really looking forward to that part of the journey. ride safe my friend paul

With the difference of the US-CAD $, who knows, maybe it is more possible today to have it in Canada. Granted, BC might be a little to far to the left coast, but I think southern Alberta near the BC/ID border might be a very doable area.
Prairie or mountains. US or Canada. The ride choice is yours.

Holding it in Canada holds another obstacle....having to leave guns at the door!!! We'd need a collection and storage truck waiting at the boarder.....give them back on the way home! paul

Oh, I actually forgot that that was an actual discussion a little while ago too!! Some don't like parting with them, and others don't want to leave them at home.
Closest would be a US border town, those who want can go north, the rest can stay south. Those MT hills look nice, and still close.

Arrived at GZ yesterday... Just over 6000 km. New friends from ND and I swung a bit South and spent a day riding through Kentucky.... what an absolutely beautiful state! A welcome relief too after almost 3 days riding in a straight freekin' line through eastern MT, across ND, then down through MN, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana....no curves, nary a mountain or even a decent Hill for that matter. Kentucky and WV are gorgeous... All rolling hills, some assemblage of mountains, and great roads.

Paul, if you haven't ridden highway 6 yet you will love it. I know a great little motel in Nakusp that we say at all the time there... We love Nakusp... The beach, swimming in that nice cool Lake, the hot springs s, etc.

It will be my first time on Hwy 6. I'm really looking forward to it. Looking forward to hearing your suggestions for traveling that route at PA. Glad to hear you've arrived safe and sound. Hope you have a great week meeting friends and riding some incredible roads...just doesn't get much better. cheers, paul

No time for me to do that, too busy riding (over 7500 km now in total since I left home) and wearing myself out yakking, etc with all the folks. I'm doing a Facebook blog just for my family most nights, but will have lots of photos available when I hit the Valhalla rally.....

Has been the most amazing trip Paul, thx. I am back to riding solo after dropping off my new friends from North Dakota the other day. By the time I get home I will have put on 12000 km all told!!! Broke an all time (42 years) record for me yesterday with a 16 hour day in the saddle... It was an awesome day. For the first time since I left home on the 4th weather has played a facto today however, with me dodging and then deciding to hole up and wait out severe thunderstorms and high winds here in MT just about 50 miles from Glacier (showing some wisdom in my old(er) age). Puts a bit of a crimp in my plan to arrive home with a day to spare before heading down to Port Angeles, but an early start and decent weather tomorrow should get me in sometime Thursday... enough time to finally wash my riding jeans , pick up Lisa and take off again Friday AM. Cheers, Mike

16 HOURS....HOLY crap!!! That sounds like you rode dawn to dusk on the longest day of the year. That's a lot of riding for one day. I'll bet you came pretty close to completing an Iron Butt 1000. Sounds like that Airhawk is really paying off in spades!!
Take care tomorrow. Ride safe! cheers, paul

Arrive alive my friend.
The only way I could do 16hrs would be with intermittent naps on cruise control. (Or with those little white cross pills that showed up around college exam time)

Paul... Exactly... dawn to dusk (actually past my normal "safe time" ") and really lucked out getting a place to stay that night. Picked up an hour with the central to mountain time change as well. That's why I decided to play safe today... don't want to press the good fortunes I've had all trip long. Jess, thx. No pills needed, just perfect conditions, the perfect bike, and the peaceful solitude that off-interstate routes in North Dakota and the great open expanse of Montana offer. When I do get home I will do an Inzane ride report.... seems like so long ago already. lot's to include

Mike, glad to hear your safe, and somewhere closer to home.
16 hours, crazy. Hopefully you aren't hitting those heat waves that seem to be all over? Any idea how many miles? Like Paul mentioned, might hit an Iron Butt level.

Arrived home this evening at 8:30 PM, after another big day - 15 hours from Cut Bank MT, thru Clacier, then #3 from Creston home. Got held up yesterday by severe thunderstorms and high winds...only got 5 - 6 hours in. Total kms since leaving home on the 5th is 12,250 on the nose Includes the extra day through Kentucky on the way, 2 and a half days riding in WV, and a couple of roundabout side routes on the way home. Have Thursday to rest up and clean the bike up (gonna take a while) before taking off for Port Angeles Friday AM

Glad to hear your home safe and sound. Looking forward to talking story with you. I have to work tomorrow so I'll leave White Rock around 4:00, get to the KOA around 7:30, quickly set up the tent and then come over to the hotel to say hi.
