Has anyone changed the whole switch housing? What do I have to take apart? FSM is worthless and I found nothing in a search.

I lost my turn signal knob yesterday it just popped out and traffic got it..

I have not.  But in reading the many comments about the chrome switch housing replacements for Honda, it's like there is a gallon of stuff in a half gallon housing.  The disassembly may be a breeze, the reassembly may be a challenge. (which is true for so many things)

Be careful, take pictures, put a tray underneath to catch exploding things.

One thing that can be helpful is to loosen the risers (pad the tank, or dent the tank) so you can slide the bars side to side to make things looser and easier to work on.

Don't know if this is helpful (enough).

REmove the lever on the side you are removing.
Remove the 2 screws on the bottom of the housing.
On the Throttle side - Disassemble Bike to disconnect Throttle cables (UGH!!!)
on the other side you will need to disconnect the harness down in the bowels of hell
the 2 halves of the switch assembly separate and pull apart.  TAKE A PICTURE OF THE INSIDE OF IT.
There is 10 gallons of crap in a 5 pound bag here

The rest is "straight forward"

You just lost the button?  How about a M/C scrap yard for the button?  Probably other Honda's have the same button.  Or one of the sellers on eBay who part out Valks.  Get the switch housing and pry the button off and JB-Weld it on to your lever that I assume is sticking out?

(just a thought)

I wish it was that easy. There is no lever sticking out.

BTDT, easy. Buy a new choke cable, it has to be disconnected there anyway. Mine was perilously close to breaking, with 4-5 strands remaining.

All I  touched was the switch housing itself. Once the screws are out, it'll split apart enough for the replacement. I left the lever intact. Frankly, I had the most trouble with the harness clamp straps on the handlebars. Mine is an IS, so the left speaker had to come off. Found a couple spinning inserts there, so expect that.

Overall, it's about a 2 on a 10 scale, with a rear tire change/ spline service being a 7 to me.

It sounds like your turn signal lever broke at the bend. Mine did the same. If so you can just replace that part without removing everything. You have to buy the whole housing to get that part though. I was lucky, a kind member sold me his extra housing dirt cheap.

what Earl said.  I broke mine off not long after I got HER.  Ended up buying the whole housing.  Wasn't able at that time to find the switch lever.

Well you were correct..  Sure felt bad taking parts off the brand new left side switch housing but I'm back on the road again..

That reminds me. I should probably take mine apart and grease it up . I think that's what did my original in. The grease was pretty dried up.
