Between Friday and Saturday I rode somewhere between 700-750 miles in an overnight trip to Tennessee and back.  Out on the road I occasionally smelled gasoline.  Today I went for a short spin and when I got home I noticed the gas smell really strong.  So, I started pulling chrome stuff off and gas was streaming from the fuel level sending unit and puddling on the ground under the bike.  I had just filled up the tank so.. cooldude yea.. perfect.

I pulled the tank and flipped it over on a big stack of rags and pulled the sending unit cover.  There was an O-ring under there that was cut.  I feel sure it happened when ever the last person pulled it.  They probably knew they goobered it up when they put it back, like it had been pinched bad.  Anyway, it's Sunday and I have a multi day road trip starting next Wednesday and I need this thing fixed right now.  So, I took the O-ring to NAPA and the nice old lady behind the counter found me the exact same O-ring.  I bought a new NAPA Gold oil filter and 4 quarts of Castrol and paid the nice lady.  While putting things back together I began to mull over the wiring at the battery that someone did for the LEDs.  It was a rats nest so, I created a couple of battery buses to clean that up.  Then I added a 12 volt cigarette light connection and USB charger while I was in there.  Started putting the now not leaking tank back on and it got dark out so I quit for the night.

I'll finish up tomorrow.  A smell of gas has turned into a two day job..  But, by Wednesday I'll be back out on the road livin large.

Nice job, pictures? of the battery bus.

You know there is only one proper way to have that fuel sending unit in the IS tank? Wires point towards the back.
