Okay I need details on that ultimate! I went to the store in Daytona Beach and they told me no go or chances on making a seat for the new Valkyrie!

Des made two and I believe that is all he will do. Not enough call.  However I wonder if he does have a price to make one??

The blue bike is Michael's, he likes the seat, I believe... he let
me sit on the bike today, there's much less surface area on that
seat than on the Corbin... I also sat on a new Valkyrie that
had a Hartco (?) seat on it. Both had backrests that mounted
into the driver's seats, so they could be run solo.

That is what I thought. I mentioned that to the one who sent me the pic that I felt it would set me a considerable amount forward from the Corbin.  I don't think it would be for me.  Looks well done though!

Those seats look huge but tiny. I know most yous guys want your bike to look different, I had my stock seat done, raised about a 1/2 inch, leveled and widened to the edge, re-cushioned with firmer foam, has tail bone relief down the middle. Big difference in comfort, retains stock look and for $150. There are M/C seat guys everywhere.

I love the look of the Ultimate seats on the new Valk, had a set on my 97 and enjoyed the ride very much.
In this frame of mind, I contacted Des at Ultimate Seats and was told in no uncertain terms that he would not be making any more of these seats and referred to them as "one offs". I mostly understand his thoughts about limited production products but, it appears that on this site as well as others, many   Valkyrie owners are looking for replacement seats, so the market is expanding more so now than on initial introduction of this bike.
To not even want to look at our needs in a new light or entertain that possibility in the future has left me thinking no matter how much I enjoyed the 1st set of seats I bought from them I will always look elsewhere for my seat needs.
It's really disappointing because they make such a great seat!

I think you need to give Des credit for at least trying. He obviously weighed the pros and cons of making them on a larger scale and decided the numbers weren't there to substantiate the investment. Do you really expect him to lose money? Your only doing yourself a dis-service by never buying any more of his products over that situation. He just installed a new seat on my new GL1800 last week in Morgantown and it is awesome, SO much more comfortable than stock.

I'd like Des's foam in a Corbin, wonder if he could rework it?
Corbin chisels theirs out of stone Grin But they look good.

Dave, sorry to seem to put down Des, my point is that two sets are already made, it isn't a complicated pattern and I offered to pay the extra tariff for the seat just because I am familiar with the quality of the product and from owning them on prior bikes.

I do custom and antique jewelry refurbishing and would never expect someone to lose money or even break even on a project. I expressed this and it was a non-starter in the discussion. I simply enjoy his quality and workmanship and would be willing to compensate for any extra time and headaches.

I receive requests often for extra things I don't normally do but, most times I will accommodate a customer if they are willing to meet my terms. Obviously Des isn't willing to do so and that is fine. I just didn't want to experiment with a seat maker that I am personally unfamiliar with.

Certainly no offense meant to Des or anyone else. As stated, he makes the best seats I have ever owned and I wanted another one, even at a higher price than normal.

I have the Corbin on my 01 Valk and had to have the seat recovered because the leather wore away by my legs. I found a local guy and he not only recovered the seat but my butt had a fitting and the stiffness of the foam was decided upon. The leather he used was above the quality of the Corbin leather and the seat was great and just a tad softer. I put a sheep skin cover on it for the monkey butt and that thing was great. If you have a Corbin and its a bit to hard let me suggest the Sheep skin cover. I was given one from a guy who sold his Valk and I was really pleasantly surprised at the difference it made in the feel of the seat. Didn't want to invest the money in one because I didn't think it would make a difference but it made a big difference.

Not to put Dez down, but Corbin is making money off of us because their manufacturing process is to make a mold and put it on the shelf, then when we order a seat they manufacture it. I take it that Dez pre-manufactures a number of seats and hopes that they will sell in a short time.

So the end result is that Corbin is making $$ off us and Ultimate is not.

I have always heard that sometimes things happen for a reason. Maybe thats somewhat true. Des decided not to make these seats, I broke a shoulder and that kills my riding time this season and that translates to being able to relinquish my seat for Russell to make me a custom seat during their slower period.

At least that is my silver lining to a dark cloud.

Well I think you have a great attitude about breaking your shoulder but sorry to hear that is what it took to get you a new seat! Wink
