What is good and reliable in GPS systems, and what are you using and how do you like it ?

I saw some $400 - 600 units at Ameicade.  Really?

I use a $125 Garmin Nuvi, designed for a car, just fine.

I guess the big bucks ones have options and bells & whistles mine doesn't, but I ain't missing them.

A cheap GPS from one of those discount places. Can't even remember the brand, and about 5 years old now. No worry if I leave it on the bike.

I use a lanyard as a safety strap, to fasten it to the bike, if the cup mount lets go (it did once while traveling down the hwy).

I'm usually never using a GPS to find a point, but usually to keep me pointing in the right direction.

I use a automotive Garmin too.  I got one that shows traffic data, which has helped me avoid many delays in bigger cities.

To mount it, Ram Mounts are far and away the best on the market.  I think Garmin includes them with their Zumo units.  I bought mine from ExpressMounts.com

I have a TOMTOM mod#4ct50 it's about 5 years old but the thing i like about it is it has a very high volumn. 4 1/2 long by 2 3/4 wide great screen on it. You can not make a wrong turn with this thing As your turn comes up it will tell you about 1/2 mile before please get ready to turn. Then it will warn you turn approaching and then actual turn it's self. For the first three years the upgrads were free.I use it all the time and have never had a problemb with it. I paid 425.00 for it at the time i bought it.

I like my Zumo 450.  I have had it for 7 plus years.  I can map out a route turn by turn using MapSource and plug it into my computer and load the route into it.  It also records your "tracks" that you can upload and see every move you made.  Right down to turning around in a parking lot.

It wasn't cheap, but that is what I wanted.  I don't want the unit choosing my route.

We put a nice large screen Nuvi on my wife's Valk.  She follows me, some times at a distance I am not comfortable with.  I figure if we get separated, she can at least find "Home".   Cheesy

I bought a Garmin NUVI 660 years ago, which was costly but very functional.  I use it as a GPS and MP3 Player.  If you have a need to play MP3s on your bike, this and some other Garmin units have an SD slot.    You can find a used one on eBay for under a hundred.  Use it in my car, truck and bike....all with RAM mount.
