Help if you can
I removed my fuel tank to access some wires in the hope I could find out why my horns mounted under the bike don't work. Well didn't find any help there but now after install of fuel tank she runs like crap.  Tried to be careful and not kink anything but I am at a loss and totally frustrated. Cleaned air filter now this. The first time I fired it up a hissing sound was heard after I turned it off . That seems gone now but it frickn n won't run. I was not on reserve yet but low when I removed tank but enough to run for sure . Any help much appreciated!!!

Sounds like a kinked vent hose.

2 things come to mind right away; the vacuum line to the petcock not install properly or a break in the vacuum line from the petcock to the number 6 cylinder (left side far back). If it's a stock petcock it will not allow fuel to flow unless it has a vacuum to it. One more stupid thing, sorry I have to ask, did you turn the fuel back on. I've done it myself.

Thanks for replies. Yes fuel is on but I wonder if I crossed two vent hoses. Is that possible?

Well yes it's possible. But I think because you heard a hissing sound it's a kinked vent line. With your extra key open the fuel fill and see how it runs like that. If it runs good you've got the vent kinked somewhere.

If you've only got one key, snap the fuel cap on a zip tie (or something thin, so long as it breathes).

If the problem disappears, you have your answer.

If working alone, you prop the back of the tank up with a 2 by 4 on edge and this lets you work without holding the dang thing up (unless you are one of those rare people with three hands).  A little led light in there is also a huge help.

In that case, I think you might need to rebuild your petcock. It shouldn't allow ANY fuel to flow if it was hooked to the vent line.
