Author Topic: How many miles on austone taxi tire  (Read 2110 times)

« on: July 04, 2016, 10:49:50 AM »

I tried to do a search and it was a bit confusing with people calling that Austone taxi tire  "ATT"  and also a lot of people running the Goodyear assurance triple tread referring to it also as "ATT" or "GOODYEAR ATT"

I am currently running a champiro vp1 205/60/16

https://simpletire.com/gt-radial-p205-60r16-100a1545-tires?stmodel=champiro-vp1&stcategory=all-season&sttype=passenger&gclid=CjwKEAjwkui7BRCf64DNtfDupgoSJAA_0LOomMlHl_hmIJ4ZSiMEbawd4AiETIfwbKpQ0-NrwjNDARoChOnw_wcB

My first car tire and was on the bike when I got it. I am not displeased with the performance or handling of the tire and am not sure of mileage from previous owner but the 8000 miles I've put on it seem to show significant wear. Especially in the center.  Running 38psi haven't fooled around with pressures since it rides good. I am guessing at tire being half worn when I got it so that would estimate 16000 miles on tire. Maybe 4000 left before needs replaced. So 20000 unconfirmed miles on a $55 tire.

I have not heard one bad thing about the taxi tire

https://www.universaltire.com/175r16-austone-taxi-black.html

but at nearly 3 times the cost am I getting 3 times the mileage? 3 times the performance?  There are several people getting 15000 out of a Mc tire. I am willing to sacrifice low speed handling for an extra 5000 miles and over $100 savings with the tire I have now but what would I gain with the austone tire for the additional cost?

I'm thinking there has been one post from a rider who says he's on his 2nd Austone. Other than that, I don't think many are even on their second yet

Austone Taxi Tire = ATT
Goodyear Assurance Triple Tread = GYTT

Have you serviced or plan on doing it soon, your rear end? Even the CT requires a 10K service. It is usually done when the mc tire is replaced, which is usually around the 10K +/- mark.

For 55 bucks I would stick with that tire. I might even try it when I replace my yokahama next year.

Just rolled 50k plugs, air filter and oil change are done waiting on the rain to stop for coolant flush, brake and clutch fluid and final drive service.  Forks aren't leaking so I'll leave that fluid alone.

We've got hardcore chip/seal in Western Colorado, chews through tires like heavy grit sandpaper.  I was getting around 8-9k on Avon Cobras.  Got over 18k out of my first Austone, and it was probably good for another thousand.  Have one on both bikes now.  Considering how well it handles, I think it's worth every penny.

Anyone claiming 15 k on a mc tire I can't believe them unless I ride side by
Side for all those miles. Can you get 15 k out of a mc tire? Maybe but cords would be showing and only ridin on straight roads. About 9k Max is all I have gotten and yes I do check pressure regular. After about 7 k the handleing changes dramatically.

Yeah well maybe but there has never been a mc tire in the back of the Bee for more than 9k MAX.
Sorry I can't believe the 15-20 k on a rear unless I see all miles ridin. Just sayin coolsmiley

On my cb750c I was averaging 6-7k per rear tire and about 8 on front  all you hear are claims of unrealistic mileages on Mc tires and I'm new to the CT so I have no idea what to expect as far as mileage

I'm presently looking for a Taxi tire, may not be available here in the great white.

I'm on my second car tire, and both have given me, At Least, 42K miles.
The center is a little worn, and the wear bars are close, but hey. The car tire
is the way to go, if you're trying to save.

Now if I could just find the taxi tire here.

Some comments I've read about the taxi tire are that the low speed handling
problem is much reduced. That would be welcome.

E3 coming up on 20k miles documented soon to hit wear bars. Latest dyno run on Mustang design type dyno, 106 HP 116 TQ, add 10 to those numbers to compare to a Dynojet dyno.
next rear will be a CT.

ContiGo 130/90-17 rear on front 18k and counting.

If people would actually post to this website (which is free and easy) we would know total miles on Austones.

98 tourer, Austone Taxi tire, 26,000 miles and still have over 50% tread remaining. I will not run any thing else on the rear.

I've only been able to find it from Universal, so a mail house in the US and crossing the border to pick it up, or shipping, which will cost too much (their sale is usually free shipping to the Cont US).

I was just going to drop by my local Canadian Tire and look at their winter tires for one with a very rounded profile. Kal-Tire also.

I've got 7,000 on my E3's front and back, and they still look good.  I still have the little titty things from the mold--guess that is more a testament to my riding style than the longevity of the tire.  Running 42 psi in rear and 38 in front.  I lowered the front psi from 40 to see if I could improve the ride--it's really harsh going over deteriorating pavement joints.

I am planning on going to the ATT when I need a new rear, and maybe a MC rear tire on the front, although not totally committed.  There has been some noise about this combo.

Yes i was quite pleased with it. Replaced with primewell valero touring.  Couple dollars more but was available same day at tires plus with free mounting. I liked the champiro better but not by much. Probably going back to it when this one wears out.

This post contains a picture of my ATT @ 19,000 miles, I finally switched it out this spring after putting 33,800 miles on it.  It still had a couple thou left, but I was going on a long trip and wanted to be sure the tire would get me there and back again.

If I could keep from getting flat tires I might get more than 12000 from a Bridgestone 200 series Exedra  Had two flats in that tire before it trashed out in DesMoines
That was the best handling tire I have had and that includes the toyo proxes I ran before getting my first Cobra and 200 Battleaxe

Running an E3 now cause that is what the shop had at the time but I have an ATT in the basement waiting its turn.  I am optimistic that I will also enjoy that tire on my interstate sometime next year

No secret I am not a canyon carver but I do ride regularly for my sanity  Enjoy following this thread

I am real pleased with the handling of the ATT, the additional traction, the ride (more cushy than a bike tire even with 43# in it) and dropping the RPM's so I can cruise with Misfit and still get decent mileage.  (Read, Misfit likes to cruise FAST) The fact I can expect at least 20k out of it is just a big bonus.  Not to mention, it's more resistant to road damage than any bike tire, balances just fine with Ride-On (what tire doesn't).  It doesn't really cost less per copy than the online deals on bike tires unless you get it with free shipping.  I didn't.  The handling is much better than all the CT's I tried before it - including GYTT, two different Yoko's, a Vredestein and a Michelin.

I have had two MC rear tires go bad and flat on me, both had around 9000 miles. One went flat while on the road during a rain storm, and I rode it to a stop and the other I heard leaking while parked. Both of these tires were getting close to change time but still were within limits. Both tires just started coming apart in the middle, and looked good when I left home. I check pressure before every ride.

I went darkside not for the price but so I wouldn't feel the need to change tires at 7000 miles because I was wanting to travel far from home. I think the CT carries the heavier load easier and safer. The extra rubber under me gives me confidence while singing along in the middle of nowhere. I have the Yokahama but would like to buy the Taxi tire next time. My reasons.

Gordon,
Check out the Continental All Season at CT. I bought one but haven't installed it yet. It has a rounded profile like the Austone.
