I have 13"HD 440's on my interstate

Got them around 10,000 miles in 2003  AT 103000 now

Riding across the tz bridge expansion joints a few weeks ago I felt like I was bouncing like an old pick up truck    No idea how to adjust them either  Yesterday with wife on back it was pretty extreme but she didnt notice it  ???

Still have the original box but not the original receipt

Thinking its time to put the original shocks back on till I figure out what to replace them with

Evan, all 440s fail at some point.  I think getting 10 years would be good luck.  Mine from '05 (one) just leaked all out.  My set from '08 seems to be OK, although the chrome is all flaking off everywhere. (FWIW, I would never get chrome shocks again, aluminum never flakes off all over the place)

I had a long talk with a PS rep this morning, regarding warranty.  The company line is they make no shock now for Valkyrie (including 444s), they will not ever rebuild 440s again, so while they would like to honor the 440 lifetime warranty, they have nothing to honor it with.

I politely called him out and said somewhere in the vicinity of a dozen current Valk owners are now running the 444s, and quite happily so.  I said I understood the Valk had been out of production since '03, and understood it is convenient to assume there is little market demand for their products anymore.  I also said I belonged to a nationwide 20,000 member Valk community/forum, with tens of thousands of bikes still on the road for the indefinite future, and that we had been loyal fans and large consumers of PS products for many years...... and that I would like a little better information on why 444s supposedly are not suitable for Valkyries, short of CYA corporate politics.

The nice and very polite young man I spoke to put me on hold for a little while, then came back and said there was to be some looking into this matter, and they would be getting back to me (and I do expect that to happen).

I should have receipts for two sets of new 440s.  If you don't have one, you have no warranty.  Do what you want, but please don't upset the apple cart.  WE may get some relief here.... maybe.

When I blew out my 440s for the 2nd time they(PS) sent me a pair of 444s to replace my 440s.
If they say it won't work on the Valk they got some splaining to do to me.
The 444s are holding up real well,I blew out the 440s on rough roads with a full touring load.Pa. roads suck but the 440s died in Maine and Nova Scotia. The 444s have been on several of these trips so far with no trouble.

Could you give me the month and year they did the swap for you Bentwrench?

Also, was there any particular issue at all in the bolt up/mounting of the 444s?   I am getting the impression that this is driving them saying they are not for Valk.

Can you give me the spring rate from your 444s?  Should be printed on the springs, somewhere near the top or bottom (like the 2d row of springs in the coil).

Were they classified as standard duty or heavy duty?

Roadkill, was that in exchange on warranty for blown 440s, or just a new purchase?

Jess I forget when I got them maybe 3-4 yrs now
No issues on the install, they came with the bag full of spacers just like the originals.

They were hd stock length just like my 440s
as far as the spring rate there was a sticker on the spring at one time, It's at my other garage right now next time I'm over there I'll look for that #

Dont quote me but I think the issue why sellers or authorized retailers are offering a Valk fitment but Progressive does not has something to do with access to the adjuster with bags on.

Well yeah, maybe only a 5-6" throw with a strap wrench with the bags on, that's why you take them off (which is not rocket science), though the short throw is easy once you get the hang of it (just like a ratchet wrench).

Using your hands alone can be hard as hell or even impossible, for me, even with the bags off.  Esp after they've been on a while.  So difficulty adjusting them seems a pretty lame excuse.  You need a strap wrench to crank on them, they're always difficult to adjust.

Mine have always been fiddled with new to get the right setting, and then left alone for years (until age sets in).

I wish more people with 444s would chime in here.

What I'm talking about is like small print laser engraving along the second or third coil of springs on one end.  It shouldn't wear off (like a sticker), my 10yo ones are still clear to read (but hard to find).  CAn't remember now, but something like 120/190

Thank you.

That's confusing, the rates I'm seeing are all over the place, I guess they are different from 440 to 444.
