Hello Everyone,

The DFW Ride For Kids will celebrate our seventh ride next Sunday 4 October. The DFW VRCC has supported this ride as our charity for as long as we have been riding together. We have been the "Top Club" three of the five years we have participated. To many of you this is old news, but we thankfully have had a good number of new members over the past couple of years and would like for you to share in our pride - helping kids with brain tumors.

With only a few days left until the ride, it is time to get busy with our last minute fund raising for the kids. This year, for the first time in club history, we have created a DFW VRCC Supports Ride for Kids team at the FirstGiving online site. If you will go to that page and click on "Join This Team", you will be well on your way to creating your own page absolutely free. There are templates for your page as well as templates for thank you notes and a notification robot that will let you know when someone has made a contribution. You may edit these templates to personalize your individual site. It took me less than 5 minutes to build My Site.

This is a great tool that makes everyone in your e-mail address book a possible contributor. All donations through 5pm EST, Friday 2 October will count towards this years DFW Ride For Kids. Combine these funds with contributions from friends and neighbors that you can not get to come to the ride themselves and we have a good chance at being the top club again this year! The top club leads the ride the next year and receives a plaque with a photo of the members with the "Stars". The top five clubs will be recognized from the stage at the Celebration of Life after the ride. Awards also go to top individual fundraisers and top dealer as well.

Many of our members also help out as "day of event volunteers". If you plan to volunteer, you are required to attend one of two training meetings. The training will be in the host hotel, Springhill Suites by Marriott, 2240 W. Grapevine Mills Circle, Grapevine, TX 76051 Thursday 1 October at 7:30pm or Saturday 3 October at 10:00am. That is just across the parking lot from the ride start.

Several VRCC members riders from the Houston area are coming up early Saturday to make the training session and do some socializing at the host hotel. Some of our more social locals are also making it easy on themselves and staying at the hotel.

The tire kicking and ride are good fun. The sack lunch is sure to be sustaining. It is the Celebration of Life and the thank you from the kids that will have you back year after year!

Thank you,

Dave

Is there a time/plan for dinner on Saturday for hooking up with our out of towners who are staying in Grapevine for the ride?  I think El Presidente Garb was working on something, but after getting run down from behind, I thought I would check.  There's Cutie Pies BBQ right across from the hotel, Cozymel's mexican, Flip's and Kincaid's burgers.

I know which one Gary would choose, but they don't have the best food. Just depends on which sensory receiver you are trying to satisfy, I guess?

Any "day of event volunteers" out there? We are having a little training party in the morning (Sat.3rd) at 10am. The training will be in the host hotel, Springhill Suites by Marriott, 2240 W. Grapevine Mills Circle, Grapevine, TX 76051, Saturday 3 October at 10:00am. That is just across the parking lot from the ride start. Have some fun, help some kids that really can use a leg up! ~Jeff
