The front (rider as opposed to passenger) connector for my helmet headset on my interstate seems to have developed an issue.  Certain contacts in that connector have gone bad.
One, or sometimes both, ear speakers will quit working until I reach up and mess with that connection, at which point it will start working again, but only temporarily.  It obviously needs to be in just the right position to make contact.  I have tried a new helmet-side cable, no joy.  I have tried spraying some electrical cleaner in there, no joy.  I think it's time to replace that connector, but don't know how without cutting into the harness and creating an ugly splice.  The other issues with that are:
A) I don't know where to find a replacement connector for that round five pin (is it five?  I think it's five).
B) I'm betting those wires are tiny gauge, and I have not had good luck soldering those tiny wires.

Any suggestions?

Hey Mark,

I checked with Mother Honda (ronayers.com and partzilla.com) and they show the part is not available.  As an alternative, I believe this is the same item as on our bikes...  http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=HSPT-GL18  It might be worth a call to J&M to make sure before ordering.  Post your findings.  If nothing else, you should be able to splice the wires into the connector on the IS...if the connectors are different.

I wasn't aware that there was a connector in the middle of that lead.  I thought it was hard wired to the radio.
Thanks for the tips, both of ya'll.
