Get well soon Dave.  I'm praying for a ful recovery, and while I'm at it I'll say one for the rest of us.  A little extra insurance so to say.  Ride safe every one and look out, they are trying to kill us.

The chicken is in the coop! Or, to put it another way - our illustrious prez is home! Three pages! WOW!

It may be a day or so before he is feeling like posting, but he knows how much you folks have gone out of your way to act like you care. Dag even phoned! I hope that was on the company phone. ~Jeff

I had a delivery in Frisco so called the hospital afterwards and they said Dave was still there at 4:45PM.  So drove over to McKinney with the big UNITS truck, parked and went up to 425 to find an unmade bed, empty cups and no Dave.  Apparently, he checked out around 5:00PM.   So I missed him.  Darn - had some old guy Goldwing jokes ready to go.

I spoke with Dave last night and he was in pretty good spirits.  He was afraid that he would be the butt of everyone's jokes though.  So...be kind to our fractured friend('s ass) and only give him a little ribbing instead.  Sorry Dave...every time I think of the way you said "I have a broken ass"...well...I get a damn good chuckle out of it.

Heal fast brother!

Wanderer and I met "Broken-Ass-Dave" and Janet at the wrecking yard today.
This pic doesn't really do it justice, but all I can say is good thing our prez was on the wing and not his valk! Maybe I'll get a trailer hitch for added protection.....

Hello to all my VRCC family,

Thank you all so much for your warm wishes.  It has been truly heartwarming to have people from across town, out of town, out of state, and out of the country, who otherwise would be considered strangers or casual acquaintances were it not for the special bond we share, visit, call, text, email, post, hand-make get well cards, crack wise, and pray for my speedy and complete recovery.  I like to think I have a fairly good vocabulary, but I can't think of what comes after lucky, blessed, and miraculous.  What ever the superlative is, I'm it!

I am pleased to report that I'm doing exceedingly well considering I was minding my own business waiting for the mini-van in front of me make his left turn and when he started, I eased out the clutch and was rear-ended.  During the next few seconds I was practically shot out of a cannon, landed on by a goldwing, flew/slid/rolled 80-100 feet, and pushed myself out from under the front valance of a still-rolling mini-van as we both came to a stop.

Slightly chipped tooth?  Yeah, so?  Bruised, not broken, ribs?  I don't care if it hurts when I laugh.  Bruises on my collar bone and shoulder?  cursed armor.  Quarter-size rash on my right knee?  Gives character and builds street cred with the neighborhood kids.  Rash on my right butt cheek?  Bragging point and conversation starter.  Two non-displaced fractures of the right pelvis?  Man, if you're going to have fractures in your pelvis, these are the ones to get!  Stable, with no surgery required, and already partial weight-bearing.  Lemondrop loaned me her walker, and with the proper doses of Percoset, I'm ambulatory and almost self-sufficient.

I didn't even lose consciousness.  (Coming to a stop on a 5-10 degree slope on my back with my head down probably helped.)  I'm sure the driver's backrest helped me as did the gloves, riding jacket (being worn for the first time since Spring!), 3/4 Arai, and steel-toed boots.  The soreness in my knees probably would have been minimized with touring pants.

All in all, I probably shouldn't complain about anything else for the rest of my life.  I don't really understand how or why I survived, much less in the great condition I'm in.

I appreciate the VRCC more than I can express.  This is a wondereful group of people.

DFG

Now, on to the subject of Changing Handles...  OK, so I'm not the most creative guy in the world and I had no idea how chronic (let's hope not terminal  2funny) my addiction would be when I first registered.  Having never had a nickname, I didn't think about how perfect Bonzo was in time.  Plus, it's taken.  I didn't think Mr. April had the right ring to it and Ol' Blood & Guts just sounded like an invitation for, well, an accident.  DF6?  nah.  HellCat?  Perfect, but I'm neither veteran nor pilot.  "BAD" is good, as long as it doesn't remind people of Kanye or MJ!  So, if this ever makes it to a poll question, I hope someone puts Cannonball and Centipede out there for consideration.  Or are those bad Karma, too?

Rash on my right butt cheek?  Bragging point and conversation starter.

What sort of social situation do you find yourself in that leads to "Hey, what caused that rash?"

Seriously, very glad to hear you're (mostly) up and around.
Now that the docs have taken care of you, is the insurance company going to take care of you as well?

As for the new handle, I think we're approaching consensus, but I'll start the poll anyway.

Where to start?...

Thanks, Daniel.  I really appreciate it.  I guess you'll be poking fun at my bell-bottoms next.   Grin   Now let's work really hard on that "Picture of the WEEK" concept or I'll have to change my handle to "Pinata".

Sorry, Jeff, for blaming the pic on you.  Your denials seemed almost believable but were sabotaged by the stifled grin.

Chip, when you least expect it, expect it.  We have lots of possibilities.  Arnold Palmer Golf Academy, tennis shoes on roofs, racing your sis from TX to OH, Screech Rum...

Good point, Rocketman.  One should always include the Road- when mentioning Rash in a motorcycle context.  I guess I've joined the Gold Wing Road Rash Association afterall.

The bike has been transferred from the salvage yard to the dealership and their goldwing guy will have the estimate ready for the insurance company Tuesday afternoon.  It runs, and was "driven" onto the truck, but was smoking pretty good out the right side (low side after the wreck) and will not back up - either by foot or by reverse.  It's obviously totaled, and the initial, cursory look suggests some damage to the electrics, but the gearhead in me hopes the drive train is OK or easily repairable.   Lips Sealed

As far as the handle issue goes, you can see why one of my professors used to call me Curly.

Oh I get it, from the old picture....  Smiley  Nowadays we are all getting a little "thin" on top, some more than others...

I suppose you are hoping to buy back the Wing after it gets totaled from the insurance?  Man, that would be sweet to build one of those "Wing-Bobbers" we saw pictures of lately, from the CBRI believe.  Just think how fast that thing would be without all of that tupperware, bags, and trunk to slow it down!

Heck no it won't back up - it's scared to go backwards with it's butt all torn up.

Think it's just oil that pooled on the right side burning?

Hope it's totaled, too.  Sounds like it should be.

Jeff you really should think about getting a little sleep so you'll be ready for the weekend.. 3:56 AM!!

Anyway.

Dave,  It's no surprise that you have received this huge outcry of support and concern.  Anybody who knows you pretty quickly realizes that are a rare breed.  You never hesitate to help others and its obvious that you don't do it with any thoughts of "what's in it for me".  You're sincere interest in the Club and the People in the Club is apparent to all.  I know getting back on the bike is important to you but getting well should be number one (except for Janet) at this point.

I DO wish I could get you that motorized recliner so you could get around easier but I was unable to rent it for the week-end.  Grin

By-the-way

Being the "Black & Chrome" Valk rider that I am, I guess you might consider MY choice of Wings since I'm not quite ready...

P.S.

This should help get to page 5!

Yeah Rainmaker, I believe (and hope) it's just pooled oil.  Will know more next week.

Thanks, godfire.  Yellow was my first choice.  You know it's much more visible than blue.  Unless the person who hits you is looking at the effing radio instead of out the windshield.

Thanks for the kind words, Tom.  Janet and I sincerely appreciate the support we've received from so many.  That motorized recliner would really come in handy these days.  After a couple of weeks in one I could graduate to a motorized bar stool (Are you out there, Howie?).  And while your choice of Black & Chrome is very pretty, if I had to make a Goldwing choice right now it would probably be...
