Idle set adjustment tool

I have one of those 90 deg. hex drivers. Found it to be a PITA so it gathers dust in my toolbox and I use a screwdriver blade in a knurled 1/4" drive knob. I have to lift the carbs and remove an intake runner, but found I can be more accurate. Last time I had the carbs out about 9-10 yrs. ago I cut a slot in the head of all the pilots, so much easier to adjust with a screwdriver blade.

The reason I want to try it is so I can adjust the carbs the way the manual states, with the engine running.  I'd also like to NOT burn my hands while doing it, if possible. :'(

Just bought the Honda tool about 3 months ago and was 71. Not sure where I got it. works good. gonna do the slots if I ever need to pull my carbs.

Good luck with engine running it's still tough with intakes off. Get a mirror too. Mark the tool where the flat end is and eyeball needles flat end with mirror and then use ur mark on tool to get you on spot.

Well, have fun.  Especially when it comes to not burning the fingers.
Just set the pilots at 2.25 turns [35s].

She's got 38's and I set the idle pilot set screws at 1 3/4, at least I think that's what I did on her.  It was 3 or 4 years ago when I de-smogged.   I'm getting a little popping at low rpm decel and want to try adjusting it out.

If its just a little it should probably only take a quarter turn. But that's if you have no leaks. Did you see the ebay one for 75? That's exactly what the Honda on is.

Yeah, looked at it.  Is the end flexible?    Partzilla does not show a picture, but, the tool in the manual is different than the one from e-bay.  The Honda one is more like the one from powersports, plus it needs to have either a "D' end or be changeable.

I have it. I've used it. It's Honda line. Flexable at end. Mark the end where the flat is. so you know where to position it in the carb.  I also made some marks on the black handle with silver marker to give indicators of quarter turns. the other ones outside diameter is to fat to fit in the hole.

When I did the carbs on my Standard this spring I slotted the pilot screws then bought this.

There is barely room to fit it in but it's tricky making sure you get the tip into the slot.

Hey Hook,

  Not trying to be a pain or stickler...but I found your subject a little confusing. 

  The tool you are describing is the Pilot Screw Tool.  The pilot screw adjusts the air/fuel mixture.  This is the D-Shaped screw on the bottom of each carb.  The Idle Set Adjustment is the black knob between the #1 and #3 carbs.  NO special tool is required to adjust the idle.

Hey Joe, that's all right, I confuse myself at times :crazy2:

I put the word "Idle" where I should have used "Pilot".

It's the pilot screw/ air fuel mixture adjustments I want to do.
