Just curious if anyone has ever made their own air wings. In this heat I tend to ride the I/S mostly because on the my Standard there is noting but heat coming off the radiator. It looks like the air wings would do the job but I've already spent my allowance updating the standard.

Make your own air wings out of cardboard and duct tape, be sure to wrinkle the tape. Show it to the misses and she will increase your allowance so you can do it right...

I think it could be done. There is not much to them. Plexiglass is cheap on Amazon. A jigsaw with a fine blade and a file would get you most of the way there. You would have to figure mounts out. That might be the hardest part but there has to be a simple solution/clamp. I am thinking about making some as well but it is a ways out.

Instead of making your own plexiglass cur outs, look up replacement baker wings plexiglass. Then make up your own brackets. The plexiglass wings comes pre shaped and the holes are pre drilled too.

I was too lazy, though I have access to a machine shop and welding . I guess if somebody posted all the specs to make brackets etc. I'd have considered doing it, but the R&D factor--time, which I don't have, to figure everything out--was the drawback for me. Just went ahead and laid out $250 so I could just bolt them on and ride.

Yes I made a set using Lexan, some electrical clamps and lugs and a few screws and nuts and 2 long bolts with the heads cut off.
I used them for several years, they worked well, cost about $25 in parts and took about 1/2 day.
I think there is an old post that list the parts an information, I will search and reply back.

Parts list
Parts - everything came from Ace or Home Depot
1 - sheet 1' by 2' Lexan 2 - pipe clamps with electrical ground connection 1/4x20 2 - 6" 1/4x20 carriage screws 2 - 1/4x20 nuts 8" - of 1" bicycle inner tube 4 - electrical lugs that will slide over the 6" carriage screw 4 - acorn nuts for the screws on the electrical lugs 4 - 1/2" long counter sink screws 4 - nuts to match 1/2" long counter sink screws 4 - washers for counter sink screws 4 - acorn nuts for counter sink screws
Cut the lexan into 2 6.5" x 10.25" rectangles. On one corner of each rectangle remove 2.5" wide(from 6.5") by 3.25" long(from 10.25") section, curve the section with a nice gradual inside curve. Round the other corners for a pleasing outline. Sand and polish the edges to remove any cut marks. Drill 2 holes in each to clear the counter sink screws, these holes are centered 3.25" from the inside and 1.5" and 5" from the bottom edge, centered on these holes at the bottom cut a 1" by 1.5" clearance for the ground connection towers. Counter sink the electrical lug holes to match the counter sink screws. Remove the heads and round the ends on the 2 6" carriage screws. Cut the inner tube into 2 4" lengths. Polish and clean up the sides and edges of the pipe clamps. Grind the teeth from the inside of the pipe clamp and profile the inside of the pipe clamp to fit the upper crash bar closely. It will be necessary to remove and re-profile some of the outside shoulders of the pipe clamps to clear the cam belt covers.
Assemble the parts per the picture, and add acorn nuts to cover exposed threads. Mount and check for clearances - on the windshield and turn signals.
