So awhile back I mentioned I got hit with the dreaded starter switch (now referred to as "The Switchening". I took the switch apart and sure enough, it was sizzle melted plastic hot and the terminal was corroded. I cleaned the terminal and freed up the melted plastic around it. Everything works fine now but I'm a firm believer that if it happens once, it shall happen again.

I've purchased a LED headlight bulb and the smartswitch from the board ad. Where should I go to look for a new start switch? Will it even be needed once I remove the load from it? My instinct tells me that it will be fine as long as it doesn't get hot again and finish melting the plastic. The Switchening is real, and I don't want to see the sequel.

Suggestions? Advice? Guru thoughts?

I had an intermitting problem last year with my starter button. So before I left for a long trip, I just bought a whole new assembly from Honda for around $120.00

Okay, good to know they still make new assemblies.

I'll get with Mother Honda. I knew the only way to ensure I never suffer The Switchening again would be with a new switch and the power reroute.

Going to be close to $200 to fix a design flaw!

You can try running a relay off the starter switch to keep the amperage to the switch low. I belive the interstate models use this design.

I thought about doing my own relay with the instructions I found on shoptalk and another site. In the end I figured I'd rather save the time. Anyone ever heard of the 3 rules when it comes to repairs?

Cheap, Quick, And Good. You can only get 2 out of 3 with every repair.

The smart switch removes the load so with your new parts you should be good to go. While at Inzane this year Bon was there selling his switches. I asked if that was an installed price and he said bring it over. I did, we did, done deal, Lucille! Took about 15 minutes tops and thats because he basically used my bike as a teaching tool for a bunch of folks that watched as he installed it.

The install looks redunkulus simple. If I can tear down the 1800, install custom light controllers, install accent lighting, and put it all back together then I can most certainly do this.

First step towards the older Valk's all LED bulb and kit upgrade.

I couldn't help it...

I've also ordered new 194 in the headlight bucket bulbs, a 1157 rear tail light 360 degree LED bulb to test, and new strip light connectors for a white LED accent install on that lovely chrome motor.

I'm addicted to tinkering and electronics!

The bulb came in. It is very bright. Presents a small issue of only lighting up half the bucket. I see driving/fog lights in this bike's future.
