I'm about to pull the trigger and purchase a '99 Valkyrie standard and I have a couple of more questions:

Where is a good place to get insurance?  I've got Progressive now on my C50 and if I remember correctly when I checked a few months ago to insure a Valkyrie it jumped substantially. Ran into a guy from Tennessee (I think) and he told me his dad insured his Goldwing through something called WingWorld and it was supposily reasonable... anybody hear of this?

Also this bike has had a number of items (forks, crossbar, ...) chrome plated a few years ago and they're pitting/flaking to where it looks bad.  Does anyone know how, or had experience, to remove/cover up/paint over stuff like this?  Can it be sanded or sandblasted or maybe scraped off??

I use Progressive.  There are cheaper but they have always treated me right.

Thanks fellas, Progressive has treated us right on my wifes accident ("T" boned on her bike by an 18yr old, cell phone talking girl).  I need to re-visit what quote I got a few months ago.

I like the $288 bit, I'm paying close to $500 now.

We have Farm Bureau (who doesn't cover bikes) on the vehicles so I may check on Progressive or Gieco to insure all my stuff that may help with multiple vehicle coverage discounts.

You may find that they will insure them but not together the Car and Motorcycle policys are different I was told when I was with progressive I now have Farmers but pay 700 a year for full coverage did get a discount for multiple bikes though !!

Yeah...Geico required two separate policies.  I have Electric Insurance Company for my house and autos.

prog treated me ok also

IMHO  get max liability so you can get max SUM coverage
f the illegal or underinsured person hits you then you can recover

example

you have 250/liability and
therefore eligible for 250 SUM which you will pay for

He tbones you and you are broken up bad

his coverage 0  you can recover from YOUR co the sum of 250k
if his coverage 25k you can look to Prog for 225k

Its worth the money maybe an extra 1 dollar a day
of course you need a good lawyer  I am not admitted in Texas

think about it

WHAT THE ...???  $163!!!  Is this per year?

These people just told me the price of the Valk was $1400.00!!!  And not that good of coverage!  We eventually got it down to $903 w/ homeowners discount, joining Honda riders club, insuring a car (multi policy discount), and dropping comp & col.

I'm beginning to wonder if they are trying to make up for my wifes accident 3 yrs ago?

I called Geico and got a quote a bit less than I'm paying now for the C50 - $514.  And with a multi policy (which I need to look into) it will cost $488.

Guess I'll never understand insurance.  I had Progressive, to minimize cost, had only minimum liability: Bodily injury liability, $25,000 each person, $50,000 each accident, property damage $10,000 each accident.  Paid $95.00 per year.  When I renewed this year, I asked how much more to add comprehensive and collision, just curious, knew I wouldn't want to pay it.  She said $2 per year!  I said that couldn't be right... she said it was though.  I ordered it, paperwork specified the original liability I had been paying $95 for now costing $44.  Comprehensive, $500 deductible $14.  Collision, including $3,000 accessory coverage $39.  Total bill $97 per year.  Valkyrie only covered.

I had dropped their auto insurance because I didn't like their policy of charging $55 more per year over minimum because of "poor" credit rating.  Apparently my credit rating is bad because I don't do credit except for one credit card which I pay off each month.  And always had paid insurance premiums in full each year, never late, but that didn't count...

I have Dairyland Insurance.  $169 per year for two bikes.
Do not know about paying in case of accident.  And I hope to never find out!

$155 per year, Dairyland. Note though that in Minnesota we are pro-rated for a shorter riding season. TX will be higher for that fact alone. 99 I/S, totaled mine last year, rates did not change.

Makes sense.  I've never thought of it that way.  That sux for me as far as insurance goes!!

Maybe they'll start pro-rating for the HOT summers we're starting to have!  The wife and I took a ride on a day we thought wasn't going to be THAT hot. It probably only topped at 98 deg.  The last 30 miles turned out to be miserable.  Like someone was holding a big a$$ blowdryer on you blowing hot 70mph wind!!

The problem with Insurance is they base your fee on a few things one being your CREDIT like that has anything to do with how you drive I cannot manage my money so that makes me a bad driver  uglystupid2 so if your rates are higher that maybe why.

I agree with you on the foolish theory (can't manage $ so I can't drive).
My credit should be through the roof so I should get a great rate (or at least I think so).

Foremost Insurance is another place to check. They are a sub of Farmers and insure other things like mobile homes,rv's,boats, etc.  And, many others on a Honda Interceptor forum said they used Dairyland.

You should always shop around for better insurance prices in other areas as well.I don't want to know my agent-then I have to pay him.

AARP is a good start for automobile and homeowner's insurance if you are 50 years or older.

Fantastic!!

Does this include under/uninsured insurance?  I didn't have this at first but when my wife had a severe accident I found out this would've been a big benefit.  So I got it on my bike (hers was totalled) and it increased my premium dramatically!  But what the wife and I had to go through for three years following the wreck I think it's well worth it!

Nope and no medical either for me the payer! Un or under ins option almost doubles the policy cost! I know what your sayin but as long as I've been with just liability for the other (if I'm at fault) is a big load off the mind rite now.
