So.....all electrical tests pointed to shorted or seized fan motor.

Blowing fuses and would not run when jumping the sensor to ground.

Took it apart and found that the flat rubber sheet with 3 tabs on it was not hooked together and worked its way into the path of the fan blade.

Tested the motor and she started right up......why cant I be this lucky with all my problems?

The horn wire going to the right pod was wrapped inside the rubber sheet but that sheet must have another more important function.....anybody know?

Anyway, I reinserted the tabs and smeared a little RTV on the seams just for some innshurance!

Fan blade stuck, well that'll do it.

Its nice when Murphy takes a break and makes things easy isn't it.

I don't want to say it has to be there, but I think it's been said it keeps the heat away from the cards.

IS model only, or all bikes?

I think my std. came from the factory like that.I never heard the fan running but the weather was cool. One warm day the temp light started blinking in traffic ,checked the fan fuse and it was blown.Managed to get home sneakin' through lights and not stopping .I look in there from time to time but it hasn't moved since.

I think he meant carbs as in carburetors. At least thats what my weak mind comes up with.

All models have the shield. At least the earlier years do.

And here I was thinking you where just doing some good hearted ribbing, now I'm disappointed.  Undecided

That's what happens when I leave for 2 days and don't look in on my posts for spelling/word problems.
