I'm looking for a new U Joint but it seems they are on back order. Does anyone know of a replacement or a work around solution ?
Thanks Lyle

BigBF recently posted that he ran into that problem. Let's hope it's temporary.

I have a good used one in stock. I found a new one and am willing to part with my spare if you need it.

Thanks for the offer da Prez. I'm not in a bind yet but am replacing the shaft and pinion cup on one of my bikes and thought I'd also do the u joint at the same time.

Same here, I've a spare, and it's already in Canada.
If you need it, you pay the shipping, and buy another spare, so we have one on hand. No rush, next big trip will be to Valhalla/InZane 2017.
I'll be driving up to Edmonton Sept 23, and a sister-in-law lives in Calgary. Could arrange something if you are doing things on the cheap (I know I try to not spend where I don't need too).

Hondas and U-joints. Hmmmm. We should all keep our eyes open these days for replacements. I've stocked up with spares for my 79 Wing (no longer available) and my 97 Valk. eBay will eventually come through........

Yeah, last time they ran out (lost supplier), when they came back, the price nearly doubled. I hope that doesn't happen again.

This thread got me thinking I should find a spare, my Valk is on its original u-joint with 75,000kms on it.
Called my local Honda dealer(Canadian), parts person said the original part ($140) is discontinued and a new one is available in September for $263!!
Looks like Jess from VA was exactly right.

People started rebuilding them (with I don't know how much success) last time this happened. 1500 goldwings use the same ujoint. -Mike

from what i can find it would be easier to the moon than rebuild the joint, which seems crazy to me, honda had a bastard size joint made for their cycles? i guess thats one way of making sure people have to buy from you for their parts

I'm in the market for one of these as well - not critical, but I know it is coming... Would appreciate it if someone currently looking would report the actual receipt of a new u-joint from one of the vendors. Would rather avoid the backorder game.

Interesting thread. I'm definitely going to order one from Honda. It's interesting that not even a transmission supply house can come up with a solution. Maybe it's possible to build a new shaft with common parts, or even modify the original. This is my first post, and a newbie to the the Valkyrie, so hopefully I don't sound to ignorant. But just thinking out loud.

It took a while, But I think I found the post on the serviceable u-joint. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,28837.0.htmlI read some other posts, there was talk of the joint being used, being the wrong one, cup was .002 small, and was therefore loose and would wear out the yoke. Might need to verify everything being said in the rebuild. I believe the issue was that the rebuild was costing more than buying a new u-joint when they became available again, so it was no longer worth pursuing.

I had a U-joint go out at 138K. Ordered one from pro caliber July 5th and it's still on backorder. I ordered one on e-bay....used and replaced, but still waiting on the new one from pro caliber. When I get the new one I'll do the replacement during one of my tire changes and sell the used part.

I am waiting for a back ordered u-joint here in Toronto. Partzilla says Honda will have it to them on August 25. I sure could use a replacement now as mine is pooched and I do not want to shove a used one in there when I just replaced half of my rear end. If anyone has a NEW spare I would gladly send you my new one when it arrives just to get me back on the road

Bummer, Paladin. Hope someone out there might be able to help you get rolling again. Guys and girls, let's post when someone receives a shipping confirmation from one of these online vendors. Partzilla is my go-to online vendor and I'll be checking with them next week myself.

I spoke to partzilla this week. I ordered the u-joint before I went on vacation overseas. I called to see why it hadn't shipped yet. They told me it was on back order and their date from Honda was Aug 25!delivery to them. So another week after that and I should have it. Local Honda dealer cannot get one either.

I ordered one on aug 14, from Partszilla and was suppose to ship aug 18. Never did. I got on their Live Chat just now and he told me it showed on back order and no date from Honda when it would be available. But, as I'm inquiring about the charge, he says "One moment" Comes back and says it is now showing in stock and it will ship out today. So I'm waiting on an email with a tracking number. Maybe it will happen. Those of you with back ordered ones may want to check.

You all do realize that you're contributing to if not creating the situation? U-joints are back-ordered primarily due to a lot of people panicking and buying backups if not multiple backups. There are enough U-joints out there now to serve all the Valkyries still on the road but they are in private hands. So long as people keep snatching them up when they become available until they are no longer available they will continue to appear to be rare and continue to become more and more expensive.
While a thread such as this one provides the service of alerting people to a possible situation, it unfortunately exacerbates that very situation.

Willow: I agree with you totally but I've got 3 Valks that are getting up in mileage and my bikes do a lot of long distance rides. I'm not excessive in regards to preventitive maintanance but have come to believe in doing pm on alternators, wheel bearings, etc. roadside breakdowns on long trips aren't much fun. Motel parking lots should be for drinking beer, not repairing bikes.
