I was talking to a young fellow who was riding a 883 Sportster recently and he informed me that only 2 kinds of people ride motorcycles, THOSE who ride Harleys and those who wished they did.  2funny Bike was 2 years old 1500 miles, Invited him to do a day trip (most average 400 to 500 + miles), haven't heard back from him.

He was a very "young fellow," regardless of his age.

I think there are fours kinds of people:

1) Those who ride. These are our brothers and sisters, regardless of what brand they ride.

2) Those who used to ride but for some reason have stopped. At least they got to experience
    the open road.

3) Those who will never ride, the thought of getting on a bike scares the crap out of them.

andl last but not least, the worst kind

4) Those who don't ride but feel they need to make laws and rules to regulate bikes.  Thay have no
clue but think they know better than those who ride.  They are the one's who scare the crap out
    of me.

I think that a good many of us in the VRCC, have been there, done that, got the T-Shirt, when it comes to owning HD's...

I'd like to add another type to his list, that being 'Those that have not experienced the power, the beauty, and the smile, that is the Valkyrie'  Wink

Some time ago I had a girl I worked with who said she saw me ride my Virago 1100, at the time, into work.  She then proceeded to tell me how her husband bought a motorcycle.  When I  asked her what kind of bike, her proud immediate response was "It's a Harley".  Smiley   I asked her what kind of Harley it was.  She could not remember what style it was.  I said ok.  Then she pressed me with maybe she could remember it if I called off some Harley names.  To be real honest, I see Harleys as one of two bikes....with a fairing and without a fairing....but I indulged her.  She said it didnt have a fairing on it.  So  I started with a Fatboy and went from there.  None of them sounded right til I said Sportster.  She lit up all proud, "Yeah...That's the one!"
I then jokingly asked her why she let him ride a "girl's bike". Evil  She got mad as hell, and her first statement in defense was "ITS A HARLEY".  To which I replied......Ask any REAL Harley rider and they will tell you it's a woman's bike.
She stomped off almost in tears because I some how challenged her husband's manhood.  She didnt talk to me for weeks afterward.  LOL
The last time I saw her she INFORMED me he had bought another Harley.  Again she could not remember the name BUT this one was not a Sportster.  My reply was I was glad to hear he is riding a man's bike.  Pissed her off again!!! Evil  LOL

I'm riding what I want ride and so should everyone else. Would be a boring old world if we all liked the same thing. No knock on HD but some folks buy a Harley and get a free attitude. A few in this area will only ride with other HD riders. Could not imagine choosing ridin buddies based on bike brand.

I was riding out to Austin a week ago Friday to pick up my daughter for the weekend. She loves riding with me on the Valk. I stopped off for gas just north of Columbus when 3 guys ride up on their Harley's. They were filling up and taking peek's at the Valk. I went in to the store for a minute and when I came out, one of the guys asks me about my horn. We chatted for a few minutes when his bud walks over and kind of chuckles and said "look... she has on a Harley jacket (hoodie) and doesn't EVEN ride a Harley". I kind of smirked back at him and told him I left my "baby bike" ( Softail Deluxe) in the garage and opted to take out the "real bike" instead.... Smiley Shut them up real quick!!!! Evil

I went on a ride yesterday hosted by a local church. There were about 20 bikes there and 3 of them were Valks. All red and white, 1 Tourer and 2 Standards. Another Interstate trike showed up to the festivities after the ride. We were standing around talking when an older man walked up and started talking about the Valks. He said a few years ago he had a pretty hopped up Screaming Eagle Springer Soft Tale. Said he thought it was a pretty bad bike till he met a fellow on a Valk. They were riding in the same group through the mountains and he said the stock Valk "embarrassed him."  He thought the Valk wouldn't handle because it was so big, but he had a hard time keeping up with him in the twisties and couldn't keep up on the straights. He was impressed to say the least. He just kept saying "it's a hot rod, it's just a big hot rod."

Ive always felt that as long as youre riding, it doesnt really matter what youre on. With that being said, i road a Harley for the first and last time about 20 years ago. I was riding with a buddy that had a 1200 sportster and I was on my 900 ninja. We decided to swap for awhile to expereince what the other was riding. Needless to say I opted to switch back within a couple of miles. I felt like I was riding a moped with an out of balance lawm mower engine on it. Not my cup of tea, but as long as youre riding, im in!  Grin

Just so you know. My friends hotglue & flamingobabe just finished a 10,000 mile six week ride on a HD. Finer folks I have not met, and I would ride to the ends of the earth with those two. When was the last time you put that many miles on your bike(insert brand) in six weeks? Does a bikes brand really matter?  tickedoff

Some just wax their bike....
some are on Hondas.....Harleys... Yamahas..... Suzukis...Kawasakis..... BMWs.... Triumphs..... Nortons.... BSAs...... Motoguzzis....
Some of ALL the above brand's riders, do ALL of the above riding......

When i started this discussion I truely did not mean to bash any make of bike! I was just repeating what he said. On one of our typical rides usually all makes are represented. I also know of a couple on a HD that toured 46 states in 5 weeks this summer. cooldude I've never had much free time, Angry   Work gets in the way of alot of fun! Longest trip I've been able to take so far has been 7,300 miles in 13 days

Ouchie!!!..... I have both. I like my Harley for around town stuff and PGR missions. The Valk is definatly the cruiser.  I put about 20k miles on the Harley last year, but now that I ride the Valk for longer rides that should cut it back to about 10k a year on the Harley and about 15k on the Valk.

I agree as this is my story also....so I do know where your coming from, well said. I truly love all motorcycles it gets in your blood, If it's a motorcycle it's for me, I don't care what brand it is. When I'm window shopping and see MotoGuzzie, Ducks, BMW's all the Jap bikes I vision them as rolling works of art, there beautiful, they have there own personally just like the people who ride them.......to each their own.
