I met another Harley rider last Sat. He was telling me about the new Harley full dresser custom he got this year and showed me a picture...... nice all white with silver metal flake.... then I told him what I ride,,,,,,,, his comment was,,,,, ya the big Japanese cruisers are nice, to bad they just don't get the respect that Harleys get...... the only respect that I would give Harley riders is that the have boat loads of $$$$$$$$ to spend on a bike ........ if that is respect, well fine, I think for the ride, POWER! and how many miles the bike, will last without major engine overhaul work , we Honda cruiser have it all over the, Harleys, and I love it when other riders gather around my bike at bar stops and ask, WHAT IS THAT!!!! and how many cylinders is that? Thats a big motor,,,,,,

My 14 Valkyrie is my 27th Honda since 1968 and last winter my 27th Harley lived with the 27th Honda. There are 50+ others of various makers I have owned. Can't say HD's aren't built well just out dated mechanicals, only thing that keeps them on top is the noise they make, but like we usta say back in olden times, "if it don't go chrome it" and that's what they do.
And, that guy was only talking about poser HD riders that don't give other brands respect, a real biker will respect everything on 2 wheels HD included. I do as I'm sure most on this forum do.

If you have to get respect from what you ride then you have a serious problem with the rest of your life. I have not felt in the least intimidated or wanting when I ride to 27 gas station and stop there. Its about 200 bikes mostly Harley and yet it never fails someone walks over to me and asks about the bike. I have had kids in their 20s roll down their window at a light and say nice bike and when they have that I want it look in their eyes its hard to be not flattered. When I start mine up and its quiet, I pull off and it pulls like there is no tomorrow and I cruise and hear the air or hit the throttle and she takes off, somehow I cant remember that what we were talking about. If I had wanted a Harley I would have bought a Harley, nice to look at don't like the shake and bake and the small feel when your out there. I didn't buy mine to get respect I bought it so I could cruise the roads in comfort without worrying about break downs. That to me gains respect the fact that you can go miles with little maintenance in style. It helps to know that its one of the quickest cruisers on the road though. Its easy to live with a garage queen its not so easy to be out on the road morning after morning and have an adventure. Ask him why don't you get respect and lets see what he says. .JPG)

I admire all bikes. It's that Harley-or-nothing and outlaw-wannabee mentality that seems to be prevalent among more HD riders than not that I take issue with. I avoid group charity rides like the plague for this exact reason. I just don't want any part of that scene, man.

Another ignorant comment you always hear is "its a cheap Harley copy/clone". I wonder if a Bronco is a clone of the Scout or a Blazer a cheap copy of a Bronco, or is a Scout a wannabe Jeep? Or mini Vans, was Chrysler the first and all others cheap copies? A Camaro is a Mustang clone? Don't all industries build what sells and copy each other? Wait a minute, HD is a cheap clone of an Indian!!!

Now that's one comment you don't usually hear about the Valk, unless its from a complete above-average ignoramus who can't count to six.

The Valkyrie is in its own class as is the CTX1300 & 700, I hope all the Japan makers scrap the V twin models and go their own way, keep shaking up the cruiser segment with modern design.

You guys are missing the point entirely. It's the clothes man, its the clothes. Merchandising! Merchandising! If you ain't got dozens of t-shirts or clothing articles from every shop that has ever worked on your bike, what kind of biker are you?

Had a funny thing happen about three years ago I was on my Street Glide with my wife. ( which by the way is too small for two people and luggage fine by myself ) we pulled into a rest stop and right behind us three guys pull in one on an Ultra and one on a road Glide and one on a 1500 Valkyrie tourer maroon and cream and when they pulled in I told him nice ride and that I had a Bee and we talked a bit then the wife comes over and says to the guy hey you are the only one riding a real Motorcycle and his eyes lit up and got this grin on his face while his HD buddies turned and walked back to their machines. It made me laugh out loud don't think they appreciated that either

That's funny...and I like Bob's comment about asking the guy why they get no respect. I too would have loved to hear the dude's response.
It's Harley city where we ride man...9.5 bikes out of 10 are Harleys. Quite frankly, I am sick of hearing and seeing them everywhere... I mean their cool bikes, no doubt...I would never own one...for all the obvious reasons, but even more so because they are so popular. I am NOT someone who follows trends or crowds. *uck that.
I love my *unique* ride... Chris, when is the last time you went to the Broken Oar in Cary? Go there on a Sunday afternoon with your Valk... just to shake it up a bit.. On a Sunday there are literally 500 Harleys there...and their respective credit card, many times, wanna be bikers... Crack me up... White skinned 40-70 year old office guys trying to be tough...all brand new HARLEY clothes all clones of each other... *ucking makes me laugh and wanna barf...

I go there often.....and get lookeys but they dont say much, afraid of what their Harley buddies would think to talk to one of THOSE riders, I do get comments from BMW! and Triumph riders though they look and ask.... isn't it heavy? To which I answer just sit on it and rock side to side, then tell me what you think.....most say WOW it feels lighter than mine..... then I say you should felel it going down the road, or into a long sweeping corner, thats when you feel the superb balance and smooth power coming out and rolling on that throttle...... thats the feel that really makes me smile.....
