Hello,

I'm trying to install a Rattlebar kickshifter that I just purchased on my 99 Interstate.  I believe the bike has a peg lower kit installed and what looks to be a long shifter adaptor.  I've searched on the site and found the 2 install documents and several different pictures but I'm still a little confused if I need to replace my current shifter to a shorter one or if I can take off what looks like an extension?  Here is a picture of my setup and the Rattlebar shifter and hardware that came with it:

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Definitely looks like that is some sort of aftermarket shifter.  And yes you have the peg lowering kit.  The Rattlebars kickshifter is designed to use the OEM shifter.  I would suggest that you look for one by some method.  Maybe someone else has changed to aftermarket and one is in their junkbox.  You won't be sorry that you installed the kickshifter.

That shift peg should be where the four bolt thing is. that wire loop is designed to guide your right side of left foot to the control. The PO must have had small feet.

HA,, hey Roid, that might not be why that adapter is on there.  Grin   Anybody know who makes that shift adapter, or is that someones custom one off?

I thought I saw a picture of one of them go by not too long ago.

The most expensive things you will purchase, are those things you would not have needed if you had listened and obeyed.

The four bolt square clamping device looks like part of a forward controls set. If so, you're going to have to do some mods to make the Kickshifter work.

Most likely it would be best to attach a 1" X 1" spacer  either between the shift peg & the shift lever or attached to the inside of the shift lever for the Kickshifter linkage to attach. If you have to bend the Kickshifter, the chrome will detach, so try to make your alignments with washers & spacers.

Thanks for everyone's ideas. I took the shifter off and those 4 bolts connect the stock shifter to that extension. I will use that stock shifter to now install the Rattlebar Shifter. Dealer wanted $50 for a new stock shifter.

That extension thing is part of Big Bike Things of New Zealand's forward controls, mounted on there upside down (incorrectly) while the peg is aftermarket probably for Harley.  As mounted upside down it raised the peg perhaps to fit the PO. He could have raised it by aligning the shift lever higher on the splined shaft. You don't need either part for the kickshifter.
