That was a fun ride up to the light house.  I got off Route 1 in Machias and onto Route 191 Cutler Road to ride by the Navy's Ultra Low Frequency (ULF) antenna array to take a look.  The Navy uses ULF to communicate with subs in the North Atlantic.  Earlier in my career I did work for the Navy base but never got up to actually see it.  I found the concept of the ULF fascinating and always wanted to take a look.  I did and it was cool!

Tony, I was trying to get with the civilian contractors to paint those
towers back in the early 80's. Fill your buckets with all your necessities
for the day, strap on your safety harness, and head for the top !!!
Lead based paint.... start at top and work your way down.
Too much wind and they shut the painting process down day by day,
never knew until I showed up on site.
Highest tower was just under 1000' and shortest one was @ 800'...something close to that.
Each of these towers had 2 or 3 smaller tower attached with multiple guide wires to help
with sway....on a calm day these towers would sway an enormous amount from 90* verticle.
Multitude of underground tunnels throughout that complex.
Security was so tight, they were between you and your shadow !!!
Couldn't pay bills with not work....so found something more dependable and closer to home.
Very fascinating complex.....

Not for me either Tony.  Back in 1982 I was a 25 y/o with big balls, constant
hard-on, and wasn't afraid to try something different.
